The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds - 1st Press LP 1966 - Capitol Label -Catalogue ST 2458 - Stereo -Rainbow Labels - Matrixes - DT1 2458 B20/DT2 2458 A19 - G&L Fipback A Truly Lovely Example of what is considered by some as the genesis of multi layered sound - revered by the great and the good and the inspiration behind Sgt Peppers - The playing surfaces are in superb condition with only the lightest of paper cuts and a couple barely audible scuffs which are only visible by rotating the disc under a strong light and plays with a great sound that is crisp and clear with no clicks or pops and only the lightest of background noise in a couple of places. The labels are clean with no writing or stickers or residue and no tears and only the lightest of spindlewear.Definitely worthy of a good EX grading. The Cover is definitely the best we have ever seen Laminated Garrod & Lofthouse Flip back in close to pristine condition with very little other than a few ageing marks to the top seam and a perfect uncrushed spine plus thee is no lifting to the front laminate and only a couple of light creases to the front and virtually no wear to the flip back at all - the rear is clear and bright with only very light ageing and no writing or tears or stickers or marks The front edge is crisp and sharp with only very light feathering and there is a little corner wear only .. Again another Strong EX grading.

This is more than just an album by a great American band; it's THE great American pop album, an ambitious foray into the intricacies of harmony and melody. Masterminded by Brian Wilson, it changed the rules in rock & roll. Wilson's production brought record-making to a new level. He perfected Phil Spector's wall-of-sound into a more complex, stunning approach. He was inspired by the Beatles' RUBBER SOUL, and PET SOUNDS was, in turn, an inspiration for SGT. PEPPER.
The devoutly romantic "God Only Knows" and the hopeful "Wouldn't It Be Nice" reflect an innocent time of yearning post-adolescence. From the complex upward progressions of "You Still Believe In Me" to the heartbeat bass of "Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder)," Wilson paid attention to every nanosecond of sound. The traditional folk song "Sloop John B," with its thickly interwoven vocals, was a major hit for the band, but PET SOUNDS' astonishing power comes from its less familiar songs. The shifting moods and devious instrumentation of "I'm Waiting For The Day" and the revealing "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" are further testaments to Wilson's tortured genius. Wilson has said that angels were overseeing the production of PET SOUNDS; there is no doubt about it.
