BEACON STREET UNION
The Beacon Street Union was a '60s rock band from Boston comprised of John Wright (vocals),
Paul Tartachny (guitar, vocals), Robert Rhodes (keyboards), Wayne Ulaky (bass, vocals),
and Richard Weisburg (drums) who moved to New York in 1967 and got caught up
in MGM Records' "Bosstown Sound" promotion -- the company tried, unsuccessfully,
to promote an invented Boston music scene to rival the real one in San Francisco at the time.
Like other bands used in the promotion, The Beacon Street Union suffered from the hype,
and though they made two charting albums, they never had much of a chance to succeed

Their debut album, though often pretentious, was a mini-psychedelic masterpiece.
The material, a mixture of acid rock, blues, and ballads, was usually original and often interesting.
The album is recommended it you are able to obtain a copy. Their second effort continued
in a similar vein, but contained the orchestrated Clown's Overture and Angus Of Aberdeen.
Also of note on the album were a sixteen minute version of Baby Please Don't Go,
a most unusual track entitled May I Light Your Cigarette? and a version of the
Carl Perkin's classic Blue Suede Shoes. The back cover of this album pictures the band walking
on top of a cloud and their strange music was undoubtedly largely drug-induced.
Either or both albums are well worth checking out
and both met with some commercial success...(Fuzz Acid & Flowers)
