After 20 years of collecting, the time has come for me to sell my Beatles collection and let other collectors appreciate some of the records and memorabilia I've accumilated over the years. Please check out my other listings and remember to save me as a favourite seller, as every week I'll be listing more and more increasingly rare, collectible and desirable Beatles records!
Please be aware that all records are VISUALLY graded only - all grades are given based on how they appear under my desk lamp - since I do not own a record player. I cannot guarantee that discs will be click and skip free, although any marks and scratches that might possibly cause such problems will be highlighted clearly in the description.

This auction is for a rare, authentic copy of the American Beatles LP 'Introducing the Beatles', on the VeeJay label!
When the Beatles were making it big in England, George Martin set about trying to get their music released in America. He approached Capitol records, whom EMI owned along with Parlophone, but they refused to. Undeterred George then started approaching other, smaller record labels to release the music. VeeJay were the label to take them on.
The album was initially released with the tracks 'P. S. I Love You' and 'Love Me Do' but Capitol ironically owned the publishing rights to these songs and VeeJay soon had to replace the tracks with 'Ask Me Why' and 'Please Please Me'. These first 'Version 1' albums are very rare. The copy on offer here is the more common Version 2.
Initially the album did nothing, but after Beatlemania broke out in America VeeJay realised that they had an album of Beatles music just sitting there, and decided to go all out subcontracting a number of pressing plants to get as many copies as they could of the album out to the stores. Capitol soon took them to court and won, giving VeeJay just a few months before they had to give the rights back to them. When Capitol got them back they reissued them as 'Early Beatles' which bombed pretty badly.
While VeeJay had the publishing rights, they went overboard trying to get as many copies of this album out as possible. they subcontracted a number of factories to print copies and, when the VeeJay rainbow labels started to run out, they continued production using plain black ones.
Introducing the Beatles is one of the most counterfeited LPs of all time. However, this is a 100% authentic, genuine pressing. Nearly every fake lists the Version 1 songs whilst nearly every genuine copy lists the version 2 songs. Nearly every fake was printed as stereo whereas most mono copies are genuine. This copy has the right colour hue, it has George's shadow, it has the 1/4" internal overflaps at the top and bottom of the mouth (on fakes this overflap is much longer) and the back passes the 'Honey' test (fakes have a chunk of the H in Honey missing). The deadwax on the record is less than 1" thick (fakes have a deadwax larger than 1") and the credit 'The Beatles' is above the spindlehole. On every fake this credit is below the spindlehole!
The deadwax also carries the circled MR stamp, showing that this particular pressing was produced at the Monarch record Manufacturing Company in California.

The cover is showing a a little heavier wear than usual, but overall is still holding up okay. The front cover has a lovely rich colour to it with barely any wear! Unfortunately there's a fair amount of creasing in each corner. There's a little price sticker on the front next to George that says "Our Low Price $2.97". Bottom and top seams havesome paper wear and tear all along them, but haven't split. The spine has a knock on the INT of the title but has not really split or worn and is looking pretty good! The back has yellowed slightly and has some brown spotting. There's a tear in the back slick at the bottom and top right where the cover has been creased. There's creases top and bottom right, but these haven't torn the back slick. the name 'Kay' has been written in big letters at the top left. Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : GOOD

The playing surface has a nice shine to it but has a a fair amount of light scuffing and marking. On side 2 there's a more heavier, more noticeable scuff at the 5 o'clock position that runs through all tracks. Can't really feel anything under my fingernail. There also appears to be some slightly sticky residue on side 2 in the deadwax at the 12 o'clock position that covers about a third of the deadwax. Probably easily cleanable - I'll leave that to the winning bidder.

The labels are showing some light wear but the silver text is still looking pretty bright. There's some light but moderate spindlewear and a touch of whitening around the centrehole. Nice labels.
