Description
The Beatles 1969 UK LP Apple PCS 7088 'Abbey Road', stereo with matrices YEX 749-2 and YEX 750-1 for Sides 1 and 2 respectively on the dead wax run-offs.
This their last album but released before 'Let It Be' for which the master tapes were unfortunately in the hands of Phil Spector to overproduce the hell out of it in his own inimitable style.
The Garrod & Lofthouse single sleeve is fully laminated which has protected the corners, edges and spine to a large degree. It's in clean, solid and square shape with no seam or side splits, rips or tears. It does have some very mild corner and mouth wear plus a touch of ringwear together with imprints of writing on the rear if you angle the sleeve in the light but overall nothing to lose sleep over.
Typically the plastic laminate shrinks over time and leaves creasing which is the case here. So in essence the sleeve is structurally sound with some cosmetic blemishes so overall I rate it 7.5 /10 for condition.
The album was released with either black or white inner sleeves and here we have a black sleeve but with a polythene liner which is all the better plus its' in good 8.75 /10 order.
At 133g the vinyl is of nice medium weight. Shiny and flat, it has clean labels as shown and I estimate the number of plays to be in single figures as witnessed by the degree of spindle 'spider' tracks at the tight hole.
As usual I'm angling the disc at the window in room daylight for an initial idea of how the playing surfaces shape up. I see one light scuff then next under the all-knowing table lamp I see some other light scuffs and hairlines. Visually therefore I give the record 8.5 /10.
It plays well on my Linn / Naim system with occasional ticks from the dead band tracks and quiet sections along with the odd pop so aurally I give it 8.5 /10 also.
No problem to return if you disagree with my subjective judgements.
