This auction is for a rare, one-box EMI Parlophone stereo pressing of the Beatles LP 'Please Please Me'

In 1969 Parlophone underwent two significant changes. Firstly, the 'Sold in the UK' statement was finally removed and then, very shortly afterwards, the whole label design was changed to what is known as the 'silver on black' layout. Initially, for the first 2 years, these labels only carried one EMI logo which was at the bottom. In 1971 a second was added to the top.

These 69-71 'one box' copies were not around for very long and because they were released at the time of Abbey Road, Let It Be and the groups' early solo work the original Parlophone albums, especially the early ones, only sold in tiny, tiny amounts! Today collectors are now realising just how hard to find these are!

I'm currently individually selling a complete stereo run of the one-box albums, from Please Please Me right up to Sgt. Peppers! Check out my other auctions and complete your set today!!

The cover is looking nice with some light, general wear and tear. The front cover has a lovely colour to it with some light laminate creases around the edges, and slightly bigger creases in the bottom right and top left corners. Top and bottom seams are both holding tight with no splits or wear. Spine, like the seams, is holding tight with no wear or splits and is fully legible - just a few little laminate creases running through it. The back cover has yellowed a little with some light disc impression and light browning, most noticeably down the mouth edge. Overflaps have a little dirt buildup where the laminate has pulled back but are stuck down tightly. Decent cover!   Inner Sleeve: EX
The original red EMI inner sleeve is included and is looking really good! Has some light browning spots but has flat with a light disc impression, minimal creasing around the mouth and no splits. Nice!   Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : VG+

The playing surface has a nice shine to it. Side 1 is looking pretty clear with only a small amount of light, faint scuffs in places. Side 2 has some slightly more noticeable scuffs along with one slightly heavier scratchscuff that runs through all tracks, at the 3 0'clock position. Completely unfeelable under the finger.

The labels are clean, crisp and clear with bright text. There's hardly any spindlewear at all and just a few little flakes of white around each centrehole, as seen in the photos above. Top labels"
