Another from my personal collection! The vinyl and sleeve are always stored separately in a case for protection. This is how I have always stored my records!  I have been collecting UK Beatles albums for more than 45 years and have accumilated more than 1000 UK Beatles albums alone! Here on offer, from my private collection, an original early  UK pressing of Please Please Me 1963 recording and released in 1963! This pressing would be the fourth pressing variation features "Recording First Published in 1963...." on the labels and without "Sold In The UK ..." text (only fourth Press" The cover is the original featuring the Angus McBean credit at the bottom corner starting under the two letters "G & S"b in "Songs" (Correct for this fourth pressing)   Beatles UK  pressings in top condition are becoming extremely scarce to find , The cover has just light storage wear and minor damage at one corner top right to mention (See photos) It is quite obvious that the vinyl has been played but has just had just very minimal play only and there are no audio sounding marks on the vinyl that would cause any clicks or pops! What makes this so desirable is that the audio is special, clear and vibrant through out even between tracks is silent! very hard to find copies like this!  Near Mint Absolutely stunning Top Audio Quality! To make this even more desirable, the audio plays through  cristal clear and very vibrant without clicks or pops and no distortion, almost like new on my systems! Play tested three times prior to this listing at very loud volume on a top system, Importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge. Absolutely stunning top top Mono audio on all frequencies!

 

 

This album is totaly complete with the original poly lined Emitex record sleeve and original 1st issue Earnest J. Day & Co.Ltd  flipback cover!

 

 

This album was the first debut album to be released by the Beatles in the UK in 1963 and of course a classic! So as you can imagine many are found played to death and are found badly scratched with nasty distortion. To find a copy like this after 51 years is becoming extreemely difficult to find! Please look at my completed listings of records that I have sold of this calaber and you will see that I normally get it right!

 

 

Please Please Me is the debut album by the English rock band the Beatles. Parlophone rush-released the album on 22 March 1963 in the United Kingdom to capitalise on the success of the singles "Please Please Me" (No. 1 on most lists but only No. 2 on Record Retailer) and "Love Me Do" (No. 17).





In order for the album to contain fourteen songs (the norm for British 12" vinyl pop albums at that time was to have seven songs on each side, while American albums usually had only five or six songs per side), ten more tracks were needed to add to the four sides of their first two singles recorded and released previously. Therefore, at 10:00 am on Monday, 11 February 1963, the Beatles and George Martin began recording essentially their live act in 1963 and finished at 10:45 pm — less than thirteen hours later. In three sessions that day (each lasting approximately three hours) they produced an authentic representation of the band's Cavern Club-era sound, with only a few minor overdubs and edits. Optimistically, only two sessions were originally booked by Martin and the evening session was an afterthought.

Mark Lewisohn would later write: "There can scarcely have been 585 more productive minutes in the history of recorded music" Martin overdubbed the piano on "Misery" on 20 February and celeste on "Baby It's You" five days later






Martin had initially contemplated recording the album live at the Cavern in front of the group's home audience and visited the Liverpool club on 9 December 1962 to consider the technicalities. But when time constraints intervened, he decided to book them at EMI Studios in Abbey Road instead and record them virtually live. Martin said, "It was a straightforward performance of their stage repertoire — a broadcast, more or less."





The day ended with a cover of "Twist and Shout," which had to be recorded last because John Lennon had a particularly bad cold and Martin feared the throat-shredding vocal would ruin Lennon's voice for the day. This performance, captured on the first take, prompted Martin to say: "I don't know how they do it. We've been recording all day but the longer we go on the better they get."






The song "Hold Me Tight" was recorded during these sessions, but was "surplus to requirements" and not included on the album. "Hold Me Tight" was recorded again on 12 September 1963 for With the Beatles.

Martin considered calling the album Off the Beatle Track before Please Please Me was released on Parlophone PCS 3042. The album was recorded on a two-track BTR reel-to-reel tape deck, with most of the instrumentation on one track and the vocals on the other, allowing for a better balance between the two on the final quarter-inch tape mix-down in mono. A stereo mix was made at the same time as the mono mix, with one track on the left channel and the other on the right, as well as an added layer of reverb to better blend the two tracks together. This was common practice for mixing stereo albums at the time.

Please Please Me was released as a mono LP album on the Parlophone label in the UK on 22 March 1963, and has remained on UK catalogue continuously since 1963. The stereo version was released on 26 April, over a month after the mono version.

 THE VINYL

This original 51 year old vinyl, on initial inspection of the playing surface looks superbe. In fact I find it hard to even see a blemish even when angled to the light! Any marks that there could possibly be would be light whyspy sleeve removal only! At least no marks that would be audio sounding, No scratches that would cause any clicks or pops at all! (Please note this is the original thick , heavy and chunky slab of vinyl only found like this on the earliest pressings.) The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warping! Quite unbelievable to find on a Beatles record after 51 years!

 The Audio Quality

I have played this vinyl three times prior to listing, at very loud volume on a top system,, importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge! This 51 year old vinyl plays through absolutely superbe throughout! The audio was cristal clear and very vibrant with that deep bassey feel , only found like this on these earliest originals! I heard (no) clicks or pops during the audio and importantly no distortion or signs that this has been overplayed at all! Certainly no skips or jumps! Even in between tracks , any surface static is extreemely minimal, quite unbeleivable to find like this after 51 years!  Amaizingly even in between tracks this vinyl is lovely and quiet,, without the usual background surface noise that is so often heard on these early pressings. I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to  near mint throughout! (Listen to the whole album in my sample player above actual recording from the vinyl)

 

 

THE LABELS 

This is the original Yellow and Black Parlohone labels! without ''SOLD IN THE UK............''  Across the labels.(Only early press) ''THE PARLOPHONE  CO LTD ...'' Around the label rims (only early press) A truly unique scarce copy, the "K.T" Tax Code'Stamped on side one around the spindle hole.  ''MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN''.! (UK PRESS ONLY)! (This is the fourth pressing label variation )

There is little if (no) spindle ware (the hole is perfectly round) see photo. Minimal spidering can be seen angled in strong light  (this has obviously been played but only minimal play only in my opinion! ,, definately not overplayed )

THE RECORD SLEEVE

This is the original Emitex ,poly lined record sleeve (Correct for this pressing) Becoming fragile with age with very light staining/creasing only (no) egde splits or tares! Please note, THIS IS THE ORIGINAL!

THE COVER

The original   UK PRESS  EARNEST J. DAY & Co Ltd. UK Printed. super glossy laminated front LARGE flipbacks at the rear of the cover!  There is no edge splits or tares!  There is very small damage /scuff wear at the top right corner noticed on the front about 10mm (see photos)(any other wear or creases on the front are very minor indeed, one to mention front bottom corner in the laminate any others are at the edges line type creases ) and no real nasty, but just very light rubbing\ ware with age. Any fading/staining at the rear any is minor in my opinion nothing too bad the odd light stain spot only. Only when scrutinised can I notice some crease lines at the rear that do not protrude to the front There is light creasing on the flip backs but nothing too bad. The bottom flip back has some pink ink bleeding through the white  (probably a manufacturing fault)  This cover must grade at excellent in my opinion.
