The second pressing, was issued in 1964 not more than 6 months after the original first pressing/

The principal difference can be found on the label. The "Sold in the UK" staement is no longer present, and the rim wording now has the Garmophone Co instead of the Parlophone Co.

It was only the Stereo presses that were reissued. I suspect the reason for this was because at the time of the 1964 release, the Stero format was in its infacy, and whilst 1n 65 there was no abundance of Stereo systems, they were beginning to make a bigger impact on the British public, and a second issue of the Stereo pressing seemed a viable proposition. As it happens it didn't sell in anywhere near the quantities it was expected to, and therefore is still a hard copy to find

For the Beatles completists this is a fantastic opportunity to get a stunning mint minus example of this collectible issue

The infamous Beatles For Sale cover which is probably the hardest of all Beatles releases to get in great condition. The mere fact that the record slipped into the cover from the inside of the gatefold, and not the outside, meant that most of these covers had sever spine damage, and many tears,Also the flimsy front flap was prone to the most horrible creasing.

This copy is in superb condition. The front surface is perfectly flat and has absolutely no creases or laminate lines anywhere, making it a very special and stunning item to look at. Almost unheard of in this state

The spine is perfectly flat and legible, and only has a small bit of laminate flake. there is one small nick in the top and bottom of the spine, but very small in both cases.

The rear surface is every bit as flaty as the front, and again has no laminate lines or creases. There is just the very faintest of traces of a little ring impression right at the bottom of the rear surface.

Superb Yellow and Black Parolphone label. Proper 2nd press indicators, which are

• Gramophone Co Rim wording
• P1964 at 9,Oclock
• Large 331/3rd
• No"sold in the UK" statement

The labels are in superb condition.

There is no spindle hole wear at all, and this in itself is very rare. There are a few light spider lines, and my best estimate is that the record has had fewer than 10 plays lifetime

No marks whatsoever

The Vinyl

Stunning looking Stereo example, has retained  all of its original sheen. there are a couple of really fine handling lines which do not sound out. Under intense illumination it is also possible to spot some near invisible and whispy hairlines.

In daylight the vinyl looks immaculate

The Sound

The three tests I always run on any LP I list should give the buyer a great insight into the reproduction of the record.

Distortion Test:

Pushing the volume up when playing any LP will tell you a lot about the use the LP has had. For example it will show immediately if the groove has suffered any wear through having been subjected to a worn or damaged stylus, or indeed one that was too heavy and caused wear. many people confuse background noise from scratches, and lines with distortion from groove wear. they are very different, and in my opinion I can put up with the odd bit of crackle or light pop, but the sound of a worn record is unacceptable to me. The loud volume ensures that all this is detected because the vibration of the stylus is more pronounced at higher volumes.

Production Test:

Not so much of a test, but a report on the quality of the recording and the clarity of the sound

Absolute joy to hear this classic LP in true Stereo. George Martins superb mix enhances the quality sound. A real must both in Mono and Stereo

Unwanted Noise Test:

This concentrates on the noise in the run in groove, the linking groove between the tracks, background crackle, hisses, and pops. I wont mention jumps or sticking as I wouldn't list a record that did either. This is what you can expect to hear on your system, and along with the distortion test form the basis of my overall sound grading.

Silent run in groove to No Reply, a classic Beatles opener.

Every track is produced in superb Stereo, and there is no background cracles or any unwanted noises whatsoever. Each linking groove maintains the same silence as the next.

You just will not find a nicer copy of this anywhere
