BEATLES UK, A Hard Days Night, rare ridged labels, 1964 UK mono LP.

PMC 1230, original 1964 UK black and yellow Parlophone labels.

To meet the demand of sales for this album in 1964 it is thought that these rare UK ‘ridged’ record labels were manufactured by re employing an old ‘rogue’ pressing machine that EMI bought back into service for a short time.

A UK LP in original condition, featuring:

1. each record label features very unusual ‘ridges’ to them. The ridges are about 10mm  from the outer edge of the record label. Side one features  a ‘shallower’ ridge, but the ridge on side two is more, ‘pronounced’,

2. only a very small number of these ‘ridged’  record label records were ever manufactured,

3. the records matrix and mother / stampers are all regular EMI / Parlophone,

4. comes with its original, ‘Use Emitex’ inner sleeve.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent condition, the front is laminated. The laminate has remained clean and glossy and is free from the usual laminate ‘thumb’ creases, if fact the laminate to the front, right just has one small, light ‘thumb’ crease.  The two opening edges of the sleeve have remained very clean for their age. The spine is in very good++ condition and has remained clean, white and straight and all the text on the spine is clear to read. The rear of the sleeve has remained an excellent clean, fresh white for its age. The rear of the sleeve features the period, 1960s, ‘tri flip back’, ie fold over edge design. There are NO splits, tears, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve. To the rear top, right there are the numbers ‘76’ written small, in pencil.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent condition and is the original, ‘Use Emitex’ inner sleeve. An excellent, well preserved inner sleeve that has remained clean and ‘crease’ free. Theres NO pen writing, tears, splits, stains, stickers or sticker residue to the inner sleeve.

THE RECORD: the condition of the record has been judged under normal ‘daylight’ conditions. Side one is in excellent+ condition. Side two is in very good+ condition. The record has remained very dark and glossy.

The matrix is: XEX 481 - 3N and XEX 482 - 3N,

The mother / stampers are: ‘8 ATR’ and ‘4 AOG’.

THE AUDIO: side one plays excellent+, side one plays with some light ‘crackle’ heard here and there. Side two plays near excellent, it plays with some light ‘ticks’ and some light ‘crackle’ heard here and there. The record plays with a full, powerful period mono sound. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: each of the record labels are in near excellent condition. The letters ‘KT’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side one. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue. On each side of the record labels there are some ‘spindle’ marks.

TO GRADE THE CONDITION OF THE RECORD I AM USING THE OFFICIAL GRADING SYSTEM FROM THE ‘RECORD COLLECTOR’ MAGAZINE.

BEFORE POSTING, THE RECORD IS REMOVED FROM THE RECORDS ORIGINAL INNER AND OUTER SLEEVE, THE RECORD IS THEN PUT INTO A SECOND PAPER INNER SLEEVE TO MINIMISE ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCUR WHILE IN TRANSIT. THE RECORD / SLEEVES ARE THEN PUT INTO A NEW PLASTIC SLEEVE FOR FURTHER PROTECTION.
