BEATLES UK, A Hard Days Night, unusual indented/ridged record labels, 1964 UK mono LP.

PMC 1230, early black and yellow Parlophone record labels.

To try and meet the demand for sales of this album in 1964, EMI re employed an old 'record stamping machine' that created these unusual UK ‘indented/ridged' record labels. Only a very small number of these 'indented/ridged record labels/records were ever manufactured. These copies of, 'A Hard Days Night' are one of the hardest copies to find that feature these 'indented/ridged' record labels/records.

A UK LP in original condition, featuring:

1. side one of the record label/record features an unusual 'indented circle' that appears 10mm in from the outer edge of the record label. On side two of the record label/record there is a more ‘pronounced ridge', that appears 10mm in from the outer edge of the record label,

2. a more unusual mono record label variant as the name, 'The Beatles' is printed in a smaller 'font', letter size,

3. comes with its original period EMI advertising inner sleeve.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in overall very good condition, the front of the sleeve is laminated. This laminate has retained an excellent glossy finish. The spine is in very good++ condition and has remained clean, white and straight and all of the text on the spine is clear to read. The rear of the sleeve has remained an excellent clean, fresh white for its age. The rear of the sleeve features the UK period 1960s, ‘tri flip back’, ie 'fold over' edge design. Theres NO pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve. There are two small 'nicks' to the front opening edge, one is at the centre and the other is on the upper part.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in very good++ condition and is the original period EMI black and white advertising inner sleeve. Theres NO pen writing, tears, stickers or sticker residue to the inner sleeve. There is a slight split to one of the side edges.

THE RECORD: each side of the record is in good++, to near very good condition.

The records matrix is: XEX 481 - 3N and XEX 482 - 3N,

The mother / stampers are: ‘3 ALP’ and ‘4 AOG’.

THE AUDIO: side one, the first half of track one plays with 'ticks', 'crackle' and 'pops', so I will grade the audio here as good++, the rest of side one plays very good and plays with 'ticks', ‘crackle’ and ‘pops’. Side two plays very good, it plays with 'ticks', ‘crackle’ and ‘pops’. The record plays with a full, powerful period mono sound. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE RECORD LABELS: each record label is in excellent condition. The letters ‘KT’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side one. Each of the record labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.
