Description

BEATLES UK – Original REVOLVER Stereo, RARE  E J Day sleeve.

1966 PCS 7009 – Original Black and Yellow Parlophone Labels.

A UK Stereo copy in 100% original condition with a very hard to find Stereo sleeve made by ‘E J Day’.

In the UK Stereo records didnt really become the norm until 1969, so first press Stereo Beatle albums are hard to find.  By 1966 most Beatle album sleeves were being printed by the company ‘Garrad and Lofthouse’. The printing company of ‘E J Day’ were still printing a small number of Beatle album sleeves to help with the demand.   So while it is not uncommon to find a Mono Revolver ‘E J Day’ sleeve,  it is extremely hard to find a Stereo Revolver ‘E J Day’ sleeve.

This copy features:

1. the record label on side two has the spelling of ‘Doctor Robert’,  but on the sleeve this track is spelt as  ‘ Dr  Robert’.  Curious that the spelling on the rear of the sleeve was never corrected to the ‘Doctor’ spelling !

2.  there is an additional ‘dot’ that appears in the line of text,  ‘Sold in .U.K.’  etc  ie it reads  ‘.U’ etc on the record label on side one.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in near excellent condition, the front of the sleeve is laminated.  The  rear features the original tri-flipback design.  The spine is in excellent condition and all the text is readable.  As mentioned this is  a very hard to find Stereo sleeve made by ‘E J Day’, as most Revolver Stereo sleeves were made by the printers ‘Garrad and Lofthouse’.  The front has remained a very good clean white and has very little in the usual laminate creasing.  The unlaminated rear of the  sleeve  is also very clean and is free from the  usual ‘scuffing’.  There  are  NO splits, stains, pen writing,  stickers or  sticker residue on the sleeve.  There is a slight  ‘scuff’  mark on the  front  just left of the image of Paul McCartney nose.  Also on the rear bottom flipback, in the centre there is a piece of the laminate missing. Otherwise an excellent complete, original and very clean example of such a RARE  sleeve.

THE INNER SLEEVE:  is in near excellent  condition  and is the original period EMI white sleeve with the text   ‘Patents applied for’.  There are NO splits, tears, stains, stickers or sticker residue.  There is a small area of blue pen  to one of the top left corners, see photo.

THE VINYL:  is in excellent++  condition, side one looks just like new,  it is very difficult to see any marks  at all on the surface.  Side two is also excellent,  I can just see some small, light non audible marks on side two.  It is made from the period thick, heavy vinyl.  It has remained very dark and very glossy, obviously  not played very much  at all.

The matrix are:   YEX  605 - 1  and   YEX 606 – 1,

The Mother/Stampers are:   ‘  1     O P ’    and    ‘  3   O G  ’,

THE AUDIO:  is excellent, not  surprisingly as ‘visually’ the record looks so good.  An excellent playing copy, that captures the period Stereo sound.  The record lays flat on the turntable and plays well without the needle sticking or jumping.

THE LABELS:  are in excellent condition and as mentioned, side one  has  an additional ‘dot’ that appears in the line of text, ‘Sold in .U.K.’  etc, ie it reads  ‘.U’ etc.  Side two has the spelling of ‘ Doctor ’ Robert. The letters ‘ K T ’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side one.  The labels are free from any pen writing,  sticker residue or stickers.
