Description

BEATLES UK - PLEASE PLEASE ME, transition  3rd Press–MONO.

1963 PMC 1202 – A RARE 3rd TRANSITION PRESSING ON THE BLACK AND YELLOW PARLOPHONE LABELS.

An Original UK LP in 100% original condition, this is a RARE transitional 3rd press copy.  Upon the release of  the new Yellow and Black Parlophone record label an additional very small 33 and one third appeared on the  record labels as this small text had appear on the original Black and Gold labels.   It was soon spotted by EMI, who thought that the label did not need TWO 33 and one thirds !,  so the small text was removed.   However a very small number of these labels did get into the public Market, now making these labels rarer than the Original Black and Gold copies.

As this is such an early copy, it comes with an original first press Black and Gold sleeve, ie the photographs credit lines up with the last letter  ‘S’ on the word  ‘Songs’ on the front of the sleeve, bottom right hand corner.

CONDITION:

MAIN SLEEVE:  is in near very good condition,  the front of the sleeve is laminated and there is a large Mono logo to the top front right hand corner.   The two opening edges are in very good condition with NO tears.   The sleeve is a first press sleeve and features  the photographers credit that lines up with the last letter  ‘S’  on the word  ‘Songs’.    The rear of the sleeve has tri-flipbacks and  are all  stuck down firmly and have  NOT suffered from the usual wear,   the rear of the sleeve is clean for its age.   The sleeve is made and printed by ‘E J Day’.  The spine is in very good condition and has remained  white in colour, all the text on the spine is readable.  A very good solid original sleeve.  There is some rubbing wear to  the corners and there is a small piece of the flipback, rear, bottom top right  that is missing.   There is some of   Blue Pen to the bottom rear of the sleeve.

INNER SLEEVE: is in very good+  condition and is the original Polylined Emitex sleeve,  it is very white in colour and clean,   there is NO edge wear,  NO  Biro Pen  or stains on it.

VINYL: is in very good condition, it is made from the period, thick, heavy vinyl.   The vinyl is very clean, dark and shiny, the matrix  nos. are:   XEX  421 – 1N   and  XEX 422 – 1N,  the Mother/Stampers are  ‘ 1      R  M ’  and   ‘ 1   2  G O ’.

AUDIO:  is very good,  it  plays very well all the way through  and  lies flat  on the turntable and plays with NO  sticking  or jumps.   In fact this particular piece of vinyl plays extremely well, with its very clean powerful Mono audio, with little  to spoil the listening pleasure,  almost an excellent audio.

THE LABELS:   side One is  in  very good+    condition, on side Two the label is in very good condition.  There are the letters ‘M T’ embossed around the  spindle hole on side One.  As already mentioned  both the labels carry text that was  very soon removed, making this a very early transitional pressing.  As each  label  show  TWO  very small additional   ‘33 and One thirds’ !.

***************

Unfortunately as you will see from my feedback,   I have received One negative feedback recently.   This is due to the fact that I followed Ebay policy and reported  an Ebay member for non payment and in turn I have received this feedback !, while this Ebay member carries on trading unaffected !,    I am disgusted that Ebay has let this happen !

To fairly grade the condition of the record, I am using the official grading system from the Record Collector Magazine.

Grading System

The seven standard condition categories and a description of what each one means are listed below:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

+  or  – :  indicates a grading in between categories.
