BEATLES UK – Sgt Pepper LP, 1st UK original Mono, Wide Spine sleeve.

PMC 7027 – original black and yellow Parlophone labels.

A very first UK Mono wide spine LP in original condition, featuring:

A first UK Mono flipback sleeve with a ‘8mm wide spine’, measured at its widest point. It is now believed that these flipback ‘wide spine’ Pepper sleeves were the very first to be printed when the LP was first released in the UK back in June 1967. Due to packing storage problems the wide spine sleeves were discontinued in favour of the more familiar, ‘thinner’ spine flipback Pepper sleeves.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in near excellent condition, the sleeve has an excellent glossy laminate. The original wide spine is in very good++ condition and all the text on the spine is clear to read. The spines width measures 8mm at its widest point. The spine has remained clean and white in colour. There are two small areas of ‘scuffing’ to the spine. The original exposed two top flipbacks can be seen when the sleeve is opened. There are NO tears, pen writing, stains, stickers or sticker residue. On one of the top edges there is some scuffing.

THE INSERT: is in near excellent condition and is the original DARK green cardboard ‘cut-out’. There are NO tears, pen writing, stains, stickers or sticker residue. There are what appears to be four small discreet holes (staples) to the top of the insert.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in very good++ condition and is the original red and white ‘wavy’ pattern sleeve. There are NO tears, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue. There is some splitting to the edges. There is what could be a ‘tea’ stain or a water mark to the bottom of the sleeve, otherwise a clean sleeve for its age.

THE VINYL: is in near excellent condition. The vinyl is made of the period ‘thick, heavy’ vinyl, it has remained very clean, dark and glossy.

The matrix are:    XEX  637 - 1      and        XEX  638 - 1,

The mother / stampers are:  ‘2    M  P’  and  ‘3   O M’, 

THE AUDIO: side one is very good, I did hear some light ‘ticks’ towards the end of the track ‘Lucy in the Sky’ for approx. one minute of play, otherwise it plays with some crackle, it would benefit from a professional clean. Side two, is also very good, it plays with some crackle, it would benefit from a professional clean. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: are in near excellent condition. The letters ‘K T’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side one. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.

TO GRADE THE CONDITION OF THE RECORD I AM USING THE OFFICIAL GRADING SYSTEM FROM THE ‘RECORD COLLECTOR’ MAGAZINE.

PACKING  -  ALL RECORDS ARE POSTED WITH MULTI LAYERED CARD STIFFENERS FOR PROTECTION.BEFORE POSTING, THE RECORD IS REMOVED FROM THE RECORDS ORIGINAL INNER AND OUTER SLEEVES, THE RECORD IS THEN PUT INTO A SECOND PAPER INNER SLEEVE TO MINIMISE ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCUR WHILE IN TRANSIT. THE RECORD / SLEEVES ARE THEN PUT INTO A NEW PLASTIC SLEEVE FOR FURTHER PROTECTION.
