As a FIVE YEAR OLD !
December 8, 1977 - Thursday........
BILLIE JOE is a punk in the making. The future lead singer of Green Day (Billie Joe Armstrong) wanted to be a singer ever since he was just a little kid, and that interest was encouraged by a teacher at Hillcrest Elementary School in Rodeo, California. The evidence is this record that’s appeared in the San Francisco area with little Billie Joe singing “Look For Love.” The song is paired with an interview where the five year old Billy is asked:
"How long have you been singing?
For many years.
Do you like to sing?
It makes people happy when I sing.
Do you play any musical instruments?
Yes, I play the piano.
Why do you want to be a singer?
I Love it! I want people all over the world to hear me sing "look for love."
Billie Joe and Mike Dirnt started learning to play metal songs together in 1983, when they're eleven years old and put together Sweet Children, their first band, at fourteen. They become Green Day in 1989.
