SIMILAR TO THE EARLY BEATLES' MONO PRESSES THESE ORIGINAL DYLAN MONOS ARE REALLY THE ONLY WAY TO HEAR THIS ICONIC MUSIC IN ITS FULL GLORY - THE MONOS HAVE A MUCH MORE IMMEDIATE, FRESH AND UNDILUTED SOUND THAN THE STEREOS - AND THEY STILL SOUND AS VITAL AND VIBRANT TODAY AS THEY DID OVER 45 YEARS AGO

PRESSED ON QUALITY HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL THIS IS THE EARLIEST 1963 PRESSING MADE BY PHILIPS/FONTANA FOR CBS (identifiable by the indented pressing ring around the centre hole) AND IT HAS THE "RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1963" TEXT TO THE RIGHT OF THE CENTRE LOGO, HEAVILY TEXTURED DEEP ORANGE CBS LABELS, '33' SPEED INDICATION AND "BLOSSOM MUSIC" CREDIT
THE MATRIX NUMBERS ARE AGAIN, THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE:

AND THE LP IS HOUSED IN THE FIRST ISSUE, FRONT LAMINATED (ROUGH), FLIPBACK SLEEVE WITH NO PRINTERS CREDITS AND THE CBS MONO CATALOGUE NUMBER SET TO THE LEFT OF THE LOGO ON THE REVERSE. THE SPINE IS ALSO 'PINCHED' AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM
AND IT'S COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL ISSUE WHITE POLY-LINED INNER SLEEVE WITH "MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN", UK PATENT NUMBER AND 'FOREIGN PATENTS PENDING' GREY/SILVER TEXT (it was too early for the orange company inners which CBS first used in 1966)

ALL THESE CHARACTERISTICS CONFIRM THAT THIS IS THE EARLIEST PRESSING EVER RELEASED IN THE UK IN NOVEMBER 1963

It's hard to overestimate the importance of The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, the record that firmly established Dylan as an unparalleled songwriter, one of considerable skill, imagination, and vision.
At the time, folk had been quite popular on college campuses and bohemian circles, making headway onto the pop charts in diluted form, and while there certainly were a number of gifted songwriters, nobody had transcended the scene as Dylan did with this record.
There are a couple (very good) covers, with "Corrina Corrina" and "Honey Just Allow Me One More Chance," but they pale with the originals here.
At the time, the social protests received the most attention, and deservedly so, since "Blowin' in the Wind," "Masters of War," and "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" weren't just specific in their targets; they were gracefully executed and even melodic.
Although they've proven resilient throughout the years, if that's all Freewheelin' had to offer, it wouldn't have had its seismic impact, but this also revealed a songwriter who could turn out whimsy ("Don't Think Twice, It's All Right"), gorgeous love songs ("Girl From the North Country"), and cheerfully absurdist humour ("Bob Dylan's Blues," "Bob Dylan's Dream") with equal skill.
This is rich, imaginative music, capturing the sound and spirit of America as much as that of Louis Armstrong, Hank Williams, or Elvis Presley. Dylan, in many ways, recorded music that equaled this, but he never topped it.

LABELS: The labels are clean, bright, fresh and unmarked with moderate spindle traces (which show readily on these untreated rough textured labels - please see close-up photo which was taken at an angle to show these spindle marks at their worst) - this copy has been frequently enjoyed over the years but also extremely well cared for as is evident from the beautiful surfaces and the sensational quality of the audio it delivers
VINYL Visual: The vinyl lies perfectly flat on the turntable and both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen with a beautiful lustre. On close inspection under a bright light there are some hairlines evident but these have no audio consequence - the audio is superb (and apart from these hairlines the surfaces are unmarked)
VINYL Audio: Sensational Mono audio delivery - crystal clear, warm, rich and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing) there are no scratches, no sticks or jumps, barley any clicks or pops (really hardly any worth a mention and none which rise above background level) and barely any surface noise. This is a sensational copy - just about the finest first pressing I have ever heard, and the cleanest, and the whole LP plays with superb clarity, no discernible groove-wear and no distortion. Strictly graded EXCELLENT+ for audio (if not better, as its practically flawless) - this is a fantastic copy and even though it's obviously been frequently enjoyed it still sounds great and plays pretty much perfectly from start to finish - great stuff
SLEEVE: The original double-flipback sleeve is in VERY GOOD+++ condition. The front laminate (which has a rough texture to the touch) retains its deep glossy sheen and the unlaminated back is pretty clean with no extraneous marks/writing. There are some creases to the corners (nothing major) but all edges are crisp and sharp with no evident storage rubbing and the spine displays all text clear and bold. Lovely example of this original sleeve
