MINTY CLEAN  1970 vintage BRITISH collectible pressing in superior GATEFOLD COVER (USA print was a single-fold cover)

....................................................................................................................

The very first HAWKWIND album...a trippers delight with a mesh of bluesy acid dripping progressions ...

With headphones & focus listening this is "one experience" that may very well lift you outta your seat...

....................................................................................................................

Over their soon to be 50-odd year history, HAWKWIND were probably the most famous underground rock band in the world. The group was formed in the late '60s by guitarist/singer Dave BROCK, guitarist Mick SLATTERY and saxman/flautist/singer Nik TURNER. Dave BROCK is the leader of HAWKWIND and he is the captain, as it were. The band never would have made it for 40 years without Dave.

The very first HAWKWIND album starts off with the infectious blues-y "Hurry On Sundown". This song comes to prove that Dave Brock had previous experience playing in blues bands. After that you get a head-over-heels acidrock affair with lots of and lots of simply mindblowingly intense guitar jams and psychedelic effects. Highlights are through both sides and include: "The Reason Is" ... it's a wash of sound, with some light touches underneath, first from the guitar and then with an ominous repetitive bass line. On songs like this, Hawkwind's similarity to Amon Duul II is particularly pronounced. "Be Yourself" is probably best of these lengthy pieces, with an insistent melody line that gives way to a speedy, sound-washed, electronically-charged jam (starring Nik Turner's echo sax and Huw Lloyd-Langton's acidic guitar). It is a real blueprint for future Hawkwind ouvres. "Seeing It As You Really Are" is another lengthy jam. It takes a while to build up, with bass and sonic sweeps, and manic solo from Turner towards the very end. "Paranoia (Part 1)" is a brief, continual statement of a single riff, which builds up the tension, before the mellow bass-led "Paranoia (Part 2)" establishes itself. "Mirror Of Illusion" with a terrific catchy hallucinogenic melody and trippy atmospheric overlays...

Hurry On Sundown (4:50)
The Reason Is? (3:30)
Be Yourself (8:09)
Paranoia Part 1 (1:04)
Paranoia Part 2 (4:11)
Seeing It As You Really Are (10:43)
Mirror Of Illusion (6:58)
