AN EXTREMELY RARE BUDDY HOLLY TEST RECORD EP AND IT'S HISTORY. Buddy Holly left on his tape recorder in his New York apartment several home made recordings, with solo guitar of some songs he had written and was working on at the time of his death. Peggy Sue Got Married for instance, was a song about his friend Jerry Allison the Cricket's drummer who's recent marriage to his girl friend Peggy Sue, whom had already appeared in an earlier song and single Peggy Sue. That makes it tough we now know was written and recorded as a demo with Ray Charles in mind, a singer whom Buddy much admired. After Buddy's death these home recordings were handed to Coral records and backing added in New York by the Jack Hanson Combo with male vocal backings. They came out on the LP Buddy Holly Story Vol. II. Many now feel that these backings were too over dubbed, and that also Buddy was getting away from the male group backing as his last studio sessions would imply like it doesn't matter any more, Raining in my heart, ect. A couple of years later these home made recordings were given to Norman Petty, Buddy's former manager and recording manager who added the backing by the instrumentalist group the Fireballs, who had there own hit record 'Sugar Shack.' Many feel that these recordings were as near as you could get to the sound that Buddy had in mind. These tracks on our EP come from the latter Norman Petty arrangements and are among the best versions that have been made before or since. Now some comments on 'Test Records' they are not to be confused with Demos, a test is what is means, purely to test the sound and track listings, and there are only a handful ever made, so you would be very lucky to ever find another copy in existence. They have no covers, covers have not been even been thought of at this stage. They come in plain white (the original jackets are now off white with age) sleeves. They have no Artist name or listings on the label, they are on a plain blue label with the heading 'TEST' as in our picture. I deal in ever so rare records and I know that this record is irreplaceable so a realistic starting bid is offered. Track Listing: IN MONO SIDE 1 - PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED CRYING, WAITING, HOPING SIDE 2 - WHAT TO DO THAT MAKES IT TOUGH Both sides have some surface scratches and surface noise, although the overall sound is quite good, it plays very well without skips or jumps, and needless to say its rarity value is paramount when judging this EP. Graded as VG: Grading:
Grading: cover/record
M-: perfect or near perfect.
EX: the record could shows few signs of having been played, very little lessening in sound quality, cover might have slight wear.
VG: could have a little deterioration in sound quality or occasional light scratch, but nothing serious. No major defects in the cover.
G: could have deterioration in sound quality or many scratches but the record is audible and don't jump.
