Murray Wilson, the father of the brothers and a songwriter, took the boys to his publisher Hite Morgan who in turn took the to Keen Recording Studios. Dennis the only member of the group who surfed thought that it would be a good subject for a song and suggested it to Brian. Brian then wrote "Surfin" and with Mike wrote "Surfin' Safari," songs they made into demos in 1961.
Murray took the demos to Herb Newman, who owned Candix and Era Records. On December eighth Newman signed the group. Ross Regan, Era's promotion man, suggested they change their name to the Beach Boys. In December 1961 "Surfin' was issued on X Records, Morgan's label, as a promo and Candix.
This copy is in very good condition. NO surface noise, NO skips. No fidelity loss. NO distortion. Must have been played very litle. There are some light surface scratches and blemishes on the record but these do not penetrate into the grooves and effect the sound quality at all. Plays like new condition. I do not know if the plain white sleeve is original, I found this 45 in a collection of over 200 45's I bought at a sale. This has got to be the most desirable and rarest Beach Boys recording they ever made. I've been told this record has sold before on the Bay for up to 1000 bucks. I ship anywhere. NO Reserve !

I have just learned that a copy of this same 45 just sold at auction on a rare record dealers auction website last month for $650.00. It was not in any better condition than this one. I have also further researched this X records 45 version of Surfin and had confirmation that it is INDEED the first Beach Boys single EVER, and came before the Candix version in the opinion of several experts, dealers ,and collectors.
