READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles LP Revolver UNCONFIRMED LABEL VARIATION in Shrink EX!

I began finding these in the early 90’s, and have been able to confirm about half of the catalogue.  This extremely limited run doesn’t have the “Mfd. By Apple Records, Inc.” disclaimer on either Apple label!  Most collectors consider these copies to be error pressings, and some are, however; I’ve become convinced that this is an actual run.  That’s because there are certain consistent features to many of the titles I have found:

1.   They are nearly 100% from the Jacksonville plant.

2.   The ones out of Jacksonville always use the Apple labels that are dark and glossy. So dark that the stems are barely visible on Side 2. I’m not sure, but I think these were leftover from the Scranton plant after it went offline.

3.   The covers so far have been 100% RIAA 12.

4.   A good 90% of the time, the plates are very late, either “W” or “X,” which tells us that all of those titles were prepared and pressed within the same period of time, and that point is what convinces me that these are not errors.  This was a full run.

Error Copies:

Equally hard to find, though they may not be a run per se, error copies have the following in common:

1.   They have mismatched Apple labels.  Usually, the Side 2 label is the brighter, flat-textured labels out of Winchester.

2.   They’re pressed either by Winchester or Jacksonville.

3.   Their plates can be as early as the “H” run.

4.   They have almost exclusively RIAA 12 covers, although I have found two error titles with RIAA 18.

Think your Beatles collector has it all?  Get them one of these for Christmas this year, and start them on their hunt for the entire run…if the entire run exists!

Vinyl--- Excellent.  Not NM, but certainly very close!  Each side has just a few light discrepancies that were not there when the record came out of the mint, so it is disqualified from being called NM.  Still a very beautiful piece of vinyl!

Plates--- W7/ W13.  Jacksonville pressing.

Cover--- Gorgeous NM.  Looks just like it did in the record bin in the 1970’s, except that it is not sealed.

Breathe Holes--- Two breathe holes are on the front cover.  One is just above John’s right eye, and the other is just above George’s left one.

Labels--- EX.  Side 1 label has light sticker removal damage.  Both labels have very light spindle marks.  They present very well.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- Generic white.

RIAA: None.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
