Beatles MFSL 9 titles Mirror Spock Needle drop OOP! Rare! Ebbetts! Bootleg!
If you are a true Beatles audiophile, then you know that the holy grail of Beatles recordings were the ones released by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs back in the 1980's on vinyl. That box set contained individually numbered vinyl discs. Unlike the current, digitized, inferior, re-mixed, base-heavy releases, these come from The Master Tapes, but with very little interference from overly zealous audio engineers. You hear exactly what was recorded, direct from the Master Tape. Four of these titles come sealed from Mirror Spock -- they have been unopened, but you will find those individually numbered CDR's inside.
What makes these titles so, rare, so coveted, so valued? It's because MFSL NEVER RELEASED THESE TITLES ON CD! That's right: these are masterfully recreated by Mirror Spok, to give you the total MFSL experience, but on CD! Even right down to getting individually numbered CD's with labels that pay homage to the MFSL release on vinyl. These discs are sourced from an un-played copy of the vinyl release, a release which sells on Ebay for thousands...
Mirror Spock, master needle-dropper and Beatles Bootlegger says, "I would prefer the EMI CDs to have no noise reductionsince the source is tape. Butvinyl records inevitably introduce extra noise of stylus in vinyl grooves. That noise is just a limitation of the medium and is unintended. My noise reduction aims at reducing that extra vinyl noise and the cutting motor or tape machine soundproduced at MFSL cut into the grooves that is not on the mastertape. I'm trying to get as close as I can to the master tape sound asintentionally fiddled with at MFSL. Giveit a listen and see what you think. Thenoise reduction on the EMI CDs tries to reduce tape hissand is often overdone, eating into the audio, too."
Dr. Ebbett's products are very good, and if not, one ofthe best versions around especially for the US mono and stereo recordings. However, If you're looking for the best MFSL's, look no furtherthan the Mirror Spock 24-bit remasters. So far he's only done the first 8 (PPM-Help) but i hear Rubber Soul is next and I can't wait! (To my knowledge, Mirror did not release a MFSL version of The White Album or Abby Road.)
The sound on these is much like an official release withall the vocal/instrument balances corrected (at least it sounds that way tome). The sound is very "tight" and the original tonality of therecordings is not affected. Must have used very high-end equipment for thesebut it was obviously worth it!

From loyal audiophile fans: "I really like your stuff! The original MFSL transfers: nice flat response; best there was for a time (but what's up withthe vinyl ambiance cutting out between tracks?) Fabulous Sound Lab: a slight step up (and maybe slightly sideways?) with warm woodymiddles and full round bottoms and a better suppression of vinyl noise but withthe resolution of the high end losing it's presence. I am truly awed bythe exquisite sonic detail you have wrought through your no-pain-un-taken thoroughnessof task. Let them all well ask "how do you do it?" I know enough toknow to leave it to the higher beings of Audiophilery. Yes, I really like yourstuff!"
These are INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED LIMITED EDITION DISCS. Mirror Spock: "Originally, I was mimicking the MFSL "LimitedEdition Number"s on my first releases, which were MFSL records. I suppose these discs are limited editions inthat I will stop making them some day and there won't be any moreoriginals. I just haven't stopped yetand I don't know how many I'll make (probably no more than 100 of each title,if I ever get that far). I don't have apre-made stock. I make each one at thetime I get an order. Until I retire...who knows when? Maybe soon"....(2004)
