Description
Paul McCartney Album "RED ROSE SPEEDWAY" ORIGINAL 1973 UK 1st Pressing "Factory Sample"!!!!
Released on the 4th May 1973. This entered the charts on the 19th May 1973 it reached the Number 5 slot and stayed in the charts for a total of Sixteen weeks!!!!This was the Fourth official EMI release by Paul McCartney!!!!!
This album is Credited to "Paul McCartney & Wings". The Band Members are now Paul, Linda, Denny Seiwell, Denny laine and new boy Henry McCullough!!!!
The albums title was inspired by Paul's housekeeper "Rose", and this time was Credited to "Paul & Wings". This was done because "Wild Life" had sold so badly, and it was felt that, that was partly due to some people noy being aware it that it Was a "McCartney" album!!!!
Red Rose Speedway was originally planned to be a "Double Album" and during the years of 1972 and even into 1973, other Recordings are made which either ended up as Singles or sadly remained Unreleased!!!!
The album comes in a Gatefold Sleeve with a 12 page Booklet!!!! The cover photograph and much of the booklet are taken by Linda with a mention too for "Captain Snap"!!!! On the rear of the cover there is a Braille message which was dedicated to "Stevie Wonder", it reads "We Love You"!!!! The booklet also contains artwork by Alan Jones and Eduardo Paolozzi (who taught Stuart Suttcliffe in Hamburg). Interestingly, amongst the song titles listed in the booklet "Seaside Woman" can be spotted, which was recorded on the 14th July 1972 and meant to be on the album????
Obviously this "Recording" is NOT one of Paul's "Rarest" Albums to Locate!!!! However what makes this a Very Collectable item is the "Factory Sample" sticker on the Label and the Condition!!!!
Factory Samples were as a rule used on only 500 records off the Press!!!! These were intended for "Radio Disc Jockeys", "Record Executives", "Record Reviewers", "Record Shops" and "EMI Employees", to help Promote the sales of each record!!!! These were NOT FOR SALE and should not have got to the General Public!!!!
There are "Four" different types of Factory Sample Stickers"!!!! Type A: This is the First variation seen on The Beatles discs, and was in use from 1962 until around 1970. Type B: This is the Second variation, common from around 1970/1. Type C: This is the Third variation, common form around 1971 until roughly 1974. Type D: Fourth variation first starting to appear on some "Two Box LP's Sets" in 1974!!!!
The Matrix, Mother and Stampers are:
Side One: YEX-903-3. On the run out grooves are the letters LO and the number 3.
Side Two: YEX-838-1. On the run out grooves are the letters LO and the number 1.
Having the number 1 on the Codes show this to be a Very early Pressing!!!!
CONDITION:
The Centre Labels to both sides are in "Superb" condition. Though when held up to a very strong light there are Minimal signs of Spindal Marks present to both sides but NONE that even remotely spoil their look!!!! They are both Spotless and Clean and all the lettering is Perfect with no signs of Rubbing!!!!
The "Factory Sample" sticker is on Side: One:!!!!
The Vinyl still retains that Gloosy Look and has clearly been Very Well looked after which is reflected in the playback. There are one or two "Tiny" marks showing on the Vinyl when held up to a bright light (though these have been caused by handling). There are no Pops, Clicks or Jumps anywhere!!!!!!!! I play graded this on a Linn LP12 Sondek through a Linn System (which is very unforgiving). The Playback was "Superb"!!!! The record lays perfectly Flat with no Warping!!!!
Overall the Labels and Vinyl must grade as at least Excellent++!!!!
SLEEVE:
The Vinyl is housed in it's ORIGINAL "Gatefold Company Sleeve"!!!! The Front of the Cover has the now Famous photo of Paul holding a Ram by it's horns, this of course was later to be Imortalised in the photograph put down, of John holding a Pig by it's ears released to accompany the "Imagine" album!!!!
This being a Matt Black Gatefold Sleeve with a Booklet it really does have the Potential for a Lot to go wrong!!!! However, this particular one has survived in a Relatively good condtion. There is no major Creasing and the Spine is whole and intact (Just a slight knock to the bottom). The Opening Edges are Good. The Only thing that really lets this Sleeve down is that when held at certain Angles there are several Creases showing (these are Not noticable when laying down flat)!!!! The 12 page Booklet is Whole and Intact with no Rips, Tears or Writing anywhere!!!!
I would grade the Sleeve as Very Good+/Very Good++!!!!!
INNER SLEEVE:
This Inner is the Correct and Proper one for this album
Apart from slightly Yellowing with Age is in Very Good++/Excellent condition!!!!
So here we have a Brilliant, Rare and Original UK Paul McCartney 1st Pressing of his "Fourth" album with a "Factory Sample" in "Excellent+" condition!!!!
Should the winning bidder NOT be happy with either the item or my description I will offer a FULL money back gaurantee, providing the item reaches me in EXACTLY the same condition it left me in!!!!
I WILL accept first time bidders as everyone has to start somewhere!!!!
Any questions Please ask as they WILL be answered!!!!
