Presented here is a original U.S. Vee Jay pressing of Please Please Me / Ask Me Why (See Jay VJ 498). This is an absolutely original pressing and exceedingly rare. This is the only pressing with Vee Jay Bracket labels on both A and B sides. There is another pressing that has the Bracket labels on one side and the Oval labels on the other. This record was pressed in January 1964. There were only 1650 copies of this variation pressed (sourced from Bruce Spizer’s Vee Jay book). Shortly after this record was pressed, Vee Jay reconfigured the single with From Me To You on the B side and re-released it as VJ 581. The trail off areas of the record have the factory stamped AUDIOMATRIX and MR in a circle. The record was pressed by Monarch.
Record : I’m grading the record VG to VG+. I would have priced the record higher and graded it higher but the vinyl has a warp / dishing. It is not obvious when handling the record. I have provided 2 photos trying to show this. I have played the record through without any problems. The record plays without skipping or any pops. There are only light surface marks on the record (visible under strong light) - none that are feelable in any way.
