Beatles Paul McCartney Junior’s Farm VERY RARE 1-SIDED TEST PRESSING RECORD

In this auction is another RARE ONE from my own collection:

·       “JUNIOR’S FARM” by Paul McCartney & Wings

·       This is a CAPITOL RECORDS TEST PRESSING for what would be APPLE RECORDS 1875, the catalog number for this single.

·       This VERY RARE ONE-SIDED TEST PRESSING has WHITE LABELS with PRINTED and WRITTEN INFORMATION on one of the labels.

·       The Price Guide for the Beatles American Records by Perry Cox and Frank Daniels contains the following information about test pressings on page 10:

“Prior to the start of a production run, a few test copies of the record are pressed. These are sent to the record company for review. Once approval is received, the factories begin pressing the records. Because test pressings are often made prior to the labels being printed, they often have blank white labels with handwritten information. They should not be confused with promotional discs, which are manufactured in greater numbers after approval of the test pressing.”

“Because test pressings are scarcer than promotional discs and commercial copies of the record, they sell for a premium. Value is determined not only by scarcity, but also by the desirability of the title.”

·       The 45 RPM single “Junior’s Farm” b/w “Sally G” was commercially released as Apple Records 1875 on November 4, 1974.

·       “Junior’s Farm” was engineered by Ernie Winfrey at Soundshop Studios, Nashville, Tennessee in 1974. While recording in Nashville, the band stayed at the Lebanon, Tennessee farm of Curly Putman, Jr. which accounts for the song’s title.

·       “JUNIOR’S FARM” IS SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE IT WAS PAUL McCARTNEY’S LAST RELEASE ON APPLE RECORDS before signing a solo recording contract with Capitol Records in May, 1975, following the dissolution of the Beatles’ partnership.

·       The “Junior’s Farm” single went to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and to #4 on the Cash Box top 100 chart in the U.S.

·       There is the following PRINTED INFORMATION on ONE of the LABELS:

“?1974 EMI Records Limited”

And

“Available only to technical and other

authorized personnel for the limited

purposes of testing and review. NOT

TO BE PUBLICALLY PERFORMED,

REPRODUCED, SOLD OR

OTHERWISE

DISTRIBUTED.”

·       One label has the following HANDWRITTEN INFORMATION:

On one label in dark blue ink is:

“JUNIOR’S Farm”

 “Paul McCartney”

“3:03”

(3:03 is the edited play time.)

“#1875”

(the record’s catalog number)

“SHort Form”

(which probably refers to the edited play time)

The white label on the other side is completely blank. This is the blank side with dead wax.

·       “MASTERED BY CAPITOL” is pressed into the trail-off on one side.

·       The VINYL is in NEAR MINT MINUS CONDITION with just a few very light surface hairlines/scuffs.   

·       The LABELS are QUITE CLEAN and WHITE.

·       This TEST PRESSING RECORD comes with an Apple Records stock sleeve in VG+ Condition.

·       This is the ONLY ONE-SIDED TEST PRESSING RECORD by any of The Beatles that I’ve ever had or seen!

A VERY RARE TEST PRESSING of a GREAT PAUL McCARTNEY & WINGS TUNE for someone’s vinyl or Beatles collection!!!
