THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'

1963 UK *MONO* PRESSING LP

This rare early copy is a 1963 UK mono pressing which bears the very first incarnation of the familiar yellow & black Parlophone label: PMC 1202

The indications for that are the absence of the 'Recording First Published..' text & the retention from the gold label of the small '33 1/1' speed indicator in the 9 o'clock position on each label.

Both labels also omit the 'Sold in UK..' text and carry 'Parlophone Co. Ltd..' worded rims.

An 'MZT' purchase tax code is visible around the side 2 centre hole.

Matrix numbers: XEX 421-1N & XEX 422-1N

Stamper codes: 1/RA & 1/RG

Disc weight: 156g

Housed in an early 'gold label' front laminated, tri-flipback 'Ernest J. Day' printed mono cover with the 'Angus McBean' (photographer) credit position in the extreme lower right corner.

Complete with an original 'Use Emitex..' poly-lined inner-sleeve.

Labels: VERY GOOD +

Both are clean, bright & unblemished with a number of faint spindle trails and a touch of wear around each cente hole. A few tiny scratches are also present but certainly no major faults to either.

Visual: VERY GOOD

Both playing surfaces are clean and retain much of their original deep-gloss shines. However there are several light surface marks visible in strong daylight consistent with frequent handling & play but just one significant scratch which covers tracks 1 & 2 on side 2. Closer examination directly beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp reveals some harmless wispy inner-sleeve removal hairline marks but no other significant or major faults.

Play: VERY GOOD

This copy has been played many times but has no major deterioration or faults throughout. The usually well-worn 'I Saw Her Standing There' plays excellently but some light playwear/background is present on most of the other tracks. However, there are no jumps, repeats or any other major audible faults throughout.

Cover

VERY GOOD -

A respectable example of this frequently trashed cover which retains a bright & clean front panel laminate with just a few light edge wrinkles but no 'thumbnails' or any major creasing. There is some wear to the lower corners but less so to the upper two and opening edges. The rear panel is fairly clean but has some ticks aside some songs on the track-listing and some faint blemishes towards the lower right corner. There is some missing paper to the corner of the lower right flipback but they are all otherwise intact. Both seams are free from any splits and the spine is fully worded & undamaged.

Inner-sleeve

VERY GOOD

Clean & bright overall with the only significant fault being two small repairs around the centre window one one side.
