1963 UK '4th' *STEREO* PRESSING LP

This extremely hard to find pressing is on the yellow & black Parlophone label: PCS 3042

Both labels omit the 'Sold in UK..' text but include 'Recording First Published..'

'Parlophone Co. Ltd..' rims are present on both labels.

An early 'MKT' tax/price code is present around the side 1 centre-hole.

Housed in a 'GOLD' issue, front laminated tri-flipback 'Ernest J. Day' printed cover with the 'Angus McBean' photographer credit positioned in the extreme lower right corner, beginning after the blue 'S' in 'songs'. It was this type of cover which originally housed the 1st gold labelled stereo discs. Nearly all other covers of this type have the 'Angus McBean' credit positioned beneath the blue 'g' and are less rare. If you have a gold/black stereo disc with a poor cover, then this example may be a suitable replacement.

Complete with its original 'Use Emitex' poly-lined inner-sleeve.

Labels: EXCELLENT

An extremely clean & bright set with just a small collection of light spindle marks to each centre hole and minor hole touch-up but no other faults or wear.

Visual: EXCELLENT

Superb deep-gloss surfaces which are unmarked in strong daylight with no scuffs, marks or scratches on either side. Close & careful examination directly beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp reveals nothing more than some barely visible wispy paper hairlines from inner-sleeve removal, but no other visual blemishes whatsoever. Both sides of this rare pressing lies 100% flat on the turntable with no dishing or warping.

Play: VERY GOOD +

This copy has received some careful play but there is no significant deterioration to the sound qulaity overall. My careful playcheck at volume founds some light background between tracks and in a few quieter passages, but no clicks, pops or any other audible distraction or wear at all.

Cover

VERY GOOD +

A veryy respectable example of this very rare cover which apart from a few minor flaws would grade the full 'Excellent'. The front panel is clean & glossy with only a single crease towards the upper right corner but no 'thumbnails' or any other major signs of wear. The corners appear to have undergone some restoration in the past but are in nice shape. There are a few small 'pushes' to the front opening edge but no tears or feathering front or rear. The rear panel has some darkened/restored points where the cover may at one point have been mounted - however, it is otherwise clean and bright with no writing or missing paper. All of the delicate flipbacks are present, fully intact & undamaged. Both seams are completely smooth with no flaking or missing laminate and have no stresses or splits to either. The spine is also in perfect, fully worded and undamaged condition.

Inner-sleeve

EXCELLENT

A strong and heavy paper-stock example is in super shape with just a touch of unavoidable storagwear and a few faint age-spots but no splits, tears or writing.
