Description

THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'
Arguably rarer than the gold & black labelled copies, this early UK MONO pressing of their debut LP dates from initial late-Spring 1963

Both 1st variation yellow & black labels include a small '33 1/3' in the 9 o'clock position & no 'Recording First Published..' text.

This label variation was available for just a few weeks until it was realized that as this new design already incorporated a '33 1/3' indicator (above the yellow 'Parlophone' logo), so the redundant small one was quickly removed.

A rarely seen 'ZMT' purchase tax code is visible in the centre of the side 2 label.

Matrix numbers: XEX 421-1N & XEX 422-1N

Stamper codes: 2/GH & 1/M

Vinyl weight: 171g

Housed within an early-type (used for gold label copies) front laminated, tri-flipback 'Ernest J. Day' printed mono cover, with the 'Angus McBean' credit positioned in the extreme lower right corner.

Complete with its original poly-lined inner-sleeve.

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: NEAR MINT

An exceptionally clean & unblemished set with the only signs of wear being a handful of faint spindle trails on the side 2 label only - there are none on label 1.

Visual: NEAR MINT

Pristine playing surfaces which retain all of their 'as new' deep-gloss factory shine and which are completely unmarked in strong daylight. Even close inspection directly beneath my unforgiving halogen desk lamp reveals just a few barely visible wispy paper hairlines from the handful of times this disc has been carefully removed from its inner-sleeve together with a sparkling rainbow shine. Both sides of this immaculate disc also lie 100% flat on the turntable. You will not need to upgrade this hard to find pressing.

Sound Quality: EXCELLENT +

An exceptional sounding cop of this album which has clearly received less than a handful of plays over the past 50 years. The only factor keeping it from a higher play-grade is a touch of playwear on the final track on each side - apart from that, it is flawless. There are no ticks, clicks, jumps or any other audible distractions or wear of any kind. You will not find a better copy of this rare variant.

Cover: EXCELLENT +

Extremely difficult to find this fragile, early cover in anything approaching this condition. This superb example has been carefully stored in a clean, non-smoking environment and bears just a touch of storagewear to show for its half-century.

The front panel is perfectly clean and retains an immaculate, unscratched, unrubbed high-gloss laminate which is free from 'thumbnails' or creasing. There is wear to the tip of the lower left corner and a small bruise to the upper left but the easily damaged lower right corner is fully intact. Both opening edges are clean & free from any tears or feathering.

The rear panel is clean, white and free of many noticeable blemishes and no writing or missing paper to any area. All of the delicate flipbacks are fully intact both seams are smooth and unsplit with no flaking or missing laminate.

The spine is immaculate along its entire length with full laminated and perfect wording.

Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT
