Description

From 1964, the golden year of Beatlemania.
Vancouver's Official Beatle Press Conference"- a hard to find, if not rare, original piece of Canadian Beatles history. This flexi-disc was issued only by Kelly's Records, a chain of 4 local west coast record shops, to celebrate the Beatles appearance in Vancouver on September 8, 1964. It was given away free as a promotional item to Kelly's customers. The disc originated from a press agent recording. While few of these were produced, even fewer survived the next 50 years. Many fans separated the backing from the flexi-disc and some cut around the disc to create a more conventional "round" record. This piece of Canadian Beatles history does not come up often.

  • The flexi-disc is still attached to the backing picture by the two original rivets on the left side. On the back of the paper the areas around the rivets have been reinforced to avoid detaching - see photograph. 
  • The picture side of the paper backing shows some signs of aging and has minor creases. The back side shows some signs of aging such as creasing and yellowing. No writing or stickers.
  • The spindle holes on the flexi and photo backing sheet are tight.
  • The soft flexi-disc surface has a number of dents that causes a light tone arm at 1.5G to skip repeat in a couple of places. With the tone arm at 2.5G skipping is minimal and plays all the way through. The value of this item is as an "artifact" rather than a recording.
  • The top two corners of the non-playing area of the flexi have creases.
  • Small paper tear around one rivet.
  • Small paper tear on edge between rivets
  • As could be expected from a low quality flexi-disc there is surface noise and pops.
