Description
You are bidding on an original 1966 first pressing of Revolver. This is the fabled XEX 606-1 version that was pressed for one day then withdrawn and replaced with the XEX 606-2 version. This first XEX 606-1 pressing has a different mix of Tomorrow Never Knows which has never been made commercially available since its withdrawal.
This album has the following matrix numbers, mothers and stampers:
Side 1: Matrix: XEX 605-2 Mother: 1 Stamper: R
Side 2: Matrix: XEX 606-1 Mother: 1 Stamper: G
So basically, this disc is a very early version of this rare release! You can't get earlier than the first mother generated from the lacquer, and G and R stampers indicate that the sides are generated from the 1st and 2nd stampers respectively. The record itself plays really nicely with no jumps and only small crackles here and there. There is a little background noise audible between songs, but nothing that detracts from the enjoyment of listening to this great record. The most noise is audible at the start of Side 2 over the track Good Day Sunshine. I have included samples of all the intros of tracks here, so that you can hear for yourself. There are a couple of light skating marks across the vinyl on each side but these really don't affect the playing of the record as can be heard on the clips.
The inner record labels, and the back sleeve both feature the early 'Dr. Robert' and 'Love You To' spellings, rather than later "Doctor Robert" and "Love You Too".
The sleeve is in good condition with quite crisp edges and corners and no tears. There are a couple of light creases in the cover to the bottom right, but they are very minor and only noticable close-up under the laminate. The cover is slightly yellowed due to age. The original Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd sleeve has no breaks and remains intact and in very good condition.
The original inner sleeve is included, with the marks 'Patents Applied For' at the bottom left and 'Made in Great Britain' at the bottom right. This is slightly yellowed, and has a slight crease at the top right and a small fold at the bottom right where the seal flap is folded back on itself, but there are no rips and, once again, it's in good condition for its age.
