Description
THE BEATLES - 'REVOLVER'
1966 UK *1st MONO* PRESSING* LP
This initial mono pressing, available for a few days only upon release in August 1966, contains an alternate version of the song 'Tomorrow Never Know' (otherwise known as 'remix 11'). This version features the sound effects dropped in different places in the track and also has a slightly longer fade-out with a piano not audible in the replaced 606-2 & 606-3 cuts. Despite 'Revolver being reissued in mono in the current 'Remasters' series, it does NOT have the 'remix 11' version of 'Tomorrow Never Knows' - it' can only and will ever be found here on this 1st vinyl pressing.
This copy of that same rare UK mono 1st-day pressing from 1966 is on the yellow & black Parlophone label: PMC 7009
Both labels include the 'Sold in UK..' text & 'Gramophone Co. Ltd..' rims.
Label 2 label bears the 'Dr. Robert' spelling & 'KT' purchase tax code.
Housed in a front-laminated, tri-flipback 'Garrod & Lofthouse' printed mono cover.
Complete with its plain white 'Patents Applied For' inner-sleeve.
Matrix numbers: XEX 605-2 & XEX 606-1
Stamper codes: 1/A & 2/RL
Disc weight: 154g

Disc
Labels: EXCELLENT
Clean & bright with just a small number of spindle marks around each unworn centre hole.
Visual: VERY GOOD
Both surfaces are very clean and are without any heavy marks or scratches. There are however some noticeable surface marks, chiefly on side 2 which are mostly light scuffs and hairlines consistent with regular handling & play together with a tiny pin-head sized white spot on track 6 on side 2. Close inspection directly beneath my unforgiving halogen desk lamp reveals some 'bag rash' marking on side 1 & some harmless wispy hairlines, but the sparkling rainbow shine is still present on both. Both sides lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.
Play: VERY GOOD +
Despite a moderate amount of play, this copy sounds very much above average when compared to most copies of this LP I come across. There is surprisingly no groovewear distortion on any track and my careful playcheck at volume revealed only a minimal amount of light background on the quieter passages and between tracks, but certainly nothing too distracting. I also heard a handful of light ticks on 'Yellow Submarine' & 'And Your Bird Can Sing' and finally two light 'pops' on 'Got To Get You Into My Life' as a result of the aforementioned white spot (which could possibly be removed). There are certainly no heavy sounding blemishes or any jumps, repeats or any other major fault.
Cover
EXCELLENT -
An extremely respectable example which retains a clean and unscratched high-gloss front laminate showing just two small 'thumbnails' and a single light spine bend. All corners are clean and sharp, free from any bumps or bruising and the opening edges are completely unworn both sides. The rear panel is clean & unworn with the only blemish being a faint 'ghost' of a small sticker in the upper right corner. There is some laminate lifting along the upper lfiüback, but all are fully intact. Both the seams and the spine are all smooth unstressed & undamaged.
Inner-sleeve
VERY GOOD +
Clean & flat with some natural age-toning to the paper, but no writing or splits to any seam.
