Description

THE BEATLES - 'SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND'

1969 UK 'ONE EMI BOX' MONO PRESSING

**ULTRA-RARE MONO & STEREO COVER**

This ultra-rare copy features a bright but flawed cover idea which involved putting both mono & stereo catalogue numbers on the cover. Taking the standard mono cover, 'PCS 7067 Stereo' was added next to the the mono number in the rear upper right corner. However the statement 'This is a mono recording' in the text lower down was left unchanged. Just a few hundred of these covers were produced making it arguably the rarest UK Pepper pressing.

This extremely rare copy is a 1969 MONO pressing on the UK 'One EMI Box' label: PMC 7027
Both labels omit the 'Sold in UK..' text but carry 'Gramophone Co Ltd...' rims
There is no tax/price code visible on either label.

The cover is fully laminated with 'wide' internal 'flipbacks' & bearing mono & stereo catalogue numbers on the rear upper right corner.
Complete with original white inner-sleeve and cut-out sheet.

Matrix numbers: XEX 637-1 & XEX 638-1
Stamper numbers: 2/MPG & 1,9/MOL

CONDITION

Cover: VERY GOOD

This rare example retains a vibrant front panel bearing just a few light spine wrinkles & small 'thumbnail' creases.
There is a bump to the lower right corner & a small stain to the upper left. The opening edges have slight wear but no tears or feathering.
The rear panel is clean and glossy with again some small, light creases and a small section of missing paper on Paul's right leg.
The spine has some minor laminate wear but all the text is present, clean & readable.
The inside of the gatefold is clean & undamaged & all seams are unsplit.

Disc

Labels: EXCELLENT MINUS

Visual: EXCELENT MINUS

Both surfaces are clean & bright with just a single light hairline stylus scratch on side 1, but no other significant marks.
Close inspection directly under a halogen desk lamp reveals some light sleeve removal marks & paper hairlines but no major faults.
100% flat on both sides without any dishing or warping.

Audio: EXCELLENT PLUS

Always carefully played on good quality equipment, the sound quality throughout is clean & clear.
Careful listening at volume reveals no crackle or groovewear distortion on any track.
Even the introduction to 'Lucy In The Sky..' and the easily damaged 'She's Leaving Home' play perfectly & without fault.
The final piano fade plays perfectly & without intereference.

Cut-out sheet: MINT
