Description
THE BEATLES - 'SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND'
By the time this pressing was released in the UK October 1969, mono was a dead format.
However EMI decided to issue it on their new '1-EMI box' Parlophone label as PMC 7027
It sold poorly and is now the hardest UK mono pressing to locate, especially in this fine condition.
Matrix numbers: XEX 637-1 & XEX 638-1
Stamper codes: 2/MPG & 9/MOL
Vinyl weight: 133g
Housed in a fully laminated gatefold cover with both mono AND stereo catalogue numbers printed in the upper right corner of the rear panel.
'This is a mono recording' is included in the text in the lower right corner of the rear.
Complete with its plain white 'Patent Nos' inner-sleeve & unused cut-out sheet.

This, the last and best sounding 1960's mono pressing of this LP, has been barely played and shows just a small handful of light spindle trails around each unworn centre hole. Both playing surfaces retain all of their 'as new' deep-gloss rainbow shine with only a few light surface marks beneath halogen light, but nothing we would call a scratch. Audibly everything sounds clean, warm & clear with no groove/playwear or distortion anywhere, even on the delicate 'She's Leaving Home' making this one of the finest sounding pressings of this album you will own.
A beautifully preserved example of this rare variant which retains a unworn high-gloss laminate inside and out with just a single tiny 'thumbnail' on the front and a few light spine wrinkles on the rear. There is slight shelfwear bruising to the lower corners but all opening edges are clean & undamaged. Both inside panels are totally 'as new'. The spine is fully laminate and worded and all seams are smooth, unstressed & unsplit. Very tough to upgrade this beauty.
