Information on "Please Please Me"     Welcome to another auction "subjecting" a real pearl. Believe it or leave it, the record in question here is from Spring 1963, and the vinyl is still in near mint condition. - Published exactly 10 days after the gold/black first press, this release is considered the 2nd rarest U.K. Beatles orignial at all (to refresh memory, in December 1964, the 6th press was released). There's "two things" that come with this press only: Instead of "Sold in U.K...", the originals show just "33 1/3" in conjunction with the cover not made by Garrod & Lofthouse, but good old Ernest J. Day. Please read my comments below...     After playing German strip clubs and smelly vegetable warehouses for five years, the Beatles entered Studio 2 at Abbey Road and, with session drummer Andy White on drums and Ringo on maracas, recorded their first single, Love Me Do. Encouraged by its modest chart success (it reached #17), they recorded Please Please Me. After doing so, producer George Martin told the band, "Gentlemen, you've just made your first number one," and decided to immediately record an album. Please Please Me was recorded on February 11, 1963 in its entirity - in 585 minutes - while John was suffering from a cold and had a sore throat. Please Please Me hung atop the British charts for 30 weeks, but, in America - released as Introducing The Beatles in mono as well as in stereo and without Please Please Me and Ask Me Why - did not even chart.     You are bidding on a copy of Beatles'  "Please Please Me" album, issued  by  British Parlophone on its Y/B Label in Summer 1963.  This record comes in an allover excellent thru near mint (!!!) shape.

   

• "33 1/3" instead of "Sold in U.K..." on Label
• "Recording First Published..." left beside spindle hole
• Yellow/Black Parlophone label with silver print: the name "THE PARLOPHONE CO. LTD..." on the outer rim
• K.T. Tax Stamp on Label (Side One)
• Cover "Printed and Made by Ernst J. Day"
• Early 1-N stampers (see record details)
• The word "mono", on upper right of the front cover, is large.
• The song titles and the artist's name are printed "chubby printing" type
• There's more details upon request...

 

    The Vinyl is -unbelievable but true- in near mint condition. There's nothing like skips, repeats, pops, noises... - perfect Y/B British sound made in 1963!
   Cover has neither writings nor seam-split, spine is perfect, too. I'd, though, grade it VG "only", cos it shows some wear and rubbed edges, and stuff.
   Record comes in the original sleeve. One one side sleeve has an one-inch cut as well as 1/2 inch split at lower rim. All in all VG, too.
   Labels are perfect, no initials, writings, names on it, EX+.
   The Sound is (as always with good shaped British Y/B vinyl- astonishing.

"Cracking" the Parlophone Stamper Code

• Mono and Stereo: Prefix of Stamper Number
  Mono (PMC) label using: XEX (you can see each label and inner groove both side 1 and 2). Stereo (PCS, P-PCS) label using: YEX (you can see each label and inner groove both side 1 and 2).
• Lacquer, Mother and Stamper Number
  
  • At the "6 O'clock" position on the inner groove area is the matrix number with a -1 or -2 etc. For instance, Beatles For Sale in stereo is YEX 142-1 (etc.). The "1" means the FIRST LACQUER cut from the master. -2 the second etc.
  • At the "9 O'clock" is a number which tell you what "mother" was used to generate the stamper actually used the press the record. A number of "mothers" are generated from the lacquer. Obviously a "1" means first mother generated from the lacquer. A "5" means it was much later--the fifth mother generated from the lacquer.
  • At the "3 O'clock" position there will be one to three letters, which are codes associated with numbers as follows, which tell you what stamper was used to press the actual record:
    G R A M O P H L T D (Gramophone Ltd.
    
    G=1 R=2 A=3 M=4 O=5 P=6 H=7 L=8 T=9 D=0
    
    Therefore, if the letters say "GR" that is stamper 12. "O" is stamper 5 etc.
  • Example 1:
    YEX 142-1, mother 1, stamper G
    is the very first pressing of Beatles For Sale in stereo: first lacquer, first mother, first stamper.
  • Example 2:
    YEX 142-1, mother 4, stamper RLT.
    That would be first lacquer, 4th mother and 289th stamper generated from that mother.

 

    If you're serious about "scanning for" Beatles collectibles, this rare record is a "must-have" (even if you already own it)!

As soon as we drop an LP mailer at the mail office's desk, it is somewhat unpredictable how long the rest of the process will take (and totally out of our hands). Experience so far shows: same delivery took 3 days to Tokyo, seven to NYC, almost three weeks to the Philippines or MidWest United States. Even inside Germany shipping times range from one day to an entire week.
Thus: Beside a handling time of up to three business days, allow one to three weeks shipping.
