If you're a Beatles' collector or if you're looking at this listing, I don't really need to explain what this auction is for. This is a 3rd State Original Mono Copy of the Beatles "Yesterday and Today" album, This original cover, showing the Beatles in Butcher Smocks, with chunks of meat and Baby Dolls in Pieces, was recalled due to such a negative public uproar, thus forcing Capitol Records to pull the release, destroy a large number of them, and to some copies, paste the new TRUNK shot of the Beatles over the Butcher cover.
Collectors have since taken these pasted over copies, and steamed the trunk cover off, to reveal the Butcher cover underneath, as has been done with this one. Some were done with little success, and many tears, others were done relatively successful. A lot of it, from my understanding, is the type of glue used at the different Capitol Records factories across the country. This copy, has a number 6, next to the RIAA emblem on the back cover to indicate that it was manufactured at the Los Angeles plant.
Looking at the photos, you will see that this copy is about 85% peeled, with the person who peeled it leaving small bits throughout the whole cover, and a large chunk of white on the upper left hand corner. This copy unfortunately did suffer a few rips during the peeling process, mostly on the bottom left corner, on Paul's right knee, and on the Headless Baby Body, between John and Paul's shoulders. John also has a small rip, just under his turtleneck, and a tiny rip on his right armpit. But for the most part other than these few things I've mention, the slick is relatively complete, but could be cleaned up a bit more, and have the rest of the trunk cover removed, by someone who knew what they were doing. So, with this in mind, this is a pretty decent copy, but not a perfect copy, due to the tears I've mentioned.
The OVERALL COVER, in my opinion, rates a strong VG, if not slightly better--but bare with me, it's hard to determine, since the peel is not completely done, and how do you rate a cover that has bits and pieces of the TRUNK cover, throughout?? The BACK cover is in fairly good shape, showing slight wear from being in a stack with other LPs, but there is NO writing, NO stickers, but just some slight yellowing along the edges, but mostly what could be expected. The SEAMS all around are COMPLETE, and have NO splits, but there is obvious wear, and tear, but nothing major. The Spine does have a little wear, where a couple of the letters are missing.
The RECORD is a strong VG+ or Better. Both sides retain FULL GLOSS for the most part, and the RECORD PLAYS through, with minimal noise. It has a few very light scratches on the A-side, with a few light scruffs, but mostly just the wear and tear from it being slid in and out of the inner sleeve. The B-side is in better shape, showing normal light wear, from someone who took good care of the record. I will include an ORIGINAL Capitol inner sleeve when the record/cover is shipped. The LABELS are in great shape, showing minimal wear and just a light spindle mark here and there, but NO Stickers, NO writing, and just a tiny tiny tear on the spindle hole, on the A-side. OVERALL, a nice record to go with this cover.
One last thing I need to mention, the Front Cover slick, has come apart from the front cover on the left side, to the left of John's Arm about 3-4"..but has NO Tears, and could be glued down, but I left it, as I knew it was better to leave it "As Is", instead of doing a repair. Please be aware of this, when the record arrives, if you're the winning bidder, so you don't accidentally hook your finger under it, and tear it.
Lastly, I've had this record in my possession for about the last 7-8 years, with the idea of "steaming" the rest of the bits off, to have myself a good copy of this RARE cover. I never got around to it, and since then, I've bought a nicer copy, and have decided that ONE copy for me is enough, and this is mainly the reason I'm selling this copy now.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ask me about ANYTHING on this listing that is not clear. I think it's about time, another collector have this copy, as they continue to get scarcer and scarcer.

This has happen to me too many times, and I've not been able to recover these fees, without some difficulty. SO SIMPLY--NO CHECKS--FORGET IT!!

Thanks so much for checking out this item, and I do hope you'll give it a good home, should you be lucky enough to be the winning bidder.
