READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles-Rel LP George Harrison Concert for Bangla Desh Extreme Rare AFRTS SAMPLER!
This is a continuous-play 1972 LP of highlights from George’s “The Concert for Bangla Desh” LP, specially prepared by the “American Forces Radio and Television Service,” or the “AFRTS.”
Very interesting that the LP’s sequence does not follow the released LP.
Most of the LP’s issued by the AFRTS were either various artists, or else they had one artist on Side 1 and another on Side 2. This is presented as a Various Artists effort, except that all of the selections are from George’s LP.
Not many of each of these titles were pressed, as the headquarters was based in Maryland.
I’ve seen other titles including Lennon’s “Mind Games” and The Beatles’ blue album, 1967-1970 a few times each. But this is the only copy I have ever come across of George’s “The Concert for Bangla Desh” since I started collecting in 1975.
Includes the extremely rare AFRTS-printed inner sleeve.
Vinyl--- Solid VG+.
Plates--- P13053, RL 282, 4-1-PIL/ P13054, RL 282, 4-1-DR.
Cover--- These albums were usually prepared in a yellowish-brown manila-type album sleeve with no cover. I’ve provided a sturdy generic white cardboard sleeve with a die-cut hole for the labels to show through.
Labels--- EX/ EX.
AFRTS Inner Sleeve--- VG. Extremely rare to find a company AFRTS sleeve at all. This copy has one with protective plastic film lining the inside. Two seams have center splits.
If you think this title is common, try looking up the AFRTS discography on the Discogs site. This one isn’t even listed! You have an unconfirmed title for your collection waiting at the ready for you!
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
