MASSIVELY RARE Original UK 1st Pressing Double Album 'The Wall' by Pink Floyd!!! With Original 1st Press Matrix, Very Rare 1st Press Sleeve with Only One Seam Join & Original 1st Press Transparency Sticker!!! Complete with 1st Press Thick Die-Cut Inner Sleeves!!! All in Stunning Pristine Condition - One Of The Best Examples You Will See!!!!!

You are bidding on an absolutely stunning ORIGINAL1979 UK 1st Pressing of the progressive classic; The Wall by Pink Floyd. There are a number of features that identify this as the true earliest UK 1st pressing from 30 November, 1979 (and not one of the hundreds of thousands of later pressings)

Firstly we have the vital differences in the sleeve. All UK 1st issue sleeves were not pure white, they were a creamy colour. As the press run moved forward the white became more bleached until it was pure white. This is the very earliest cream-coloured 1st press sleeve. However, perhaps even more importantly, we have to look at how the sleeve was constructed, This sleeve only has **1** seam join along the top edge. The bottom edge is a continuous fold straight up into the inside of the gatefold. To put it simply, the whole sleeve is constructed from just one thick sheet of card. All later pressings *without fail* have **2** separate sections comprising of a stuck-together inner and outer gatefold panels. Only on the earliest UK 1st pressing were formed from just a single piece of card - this is a sure-fire way to check for a UK 1st press sleeve - and take it from me, there are very few out there.

Now we get to the 2 inners. Firstly, and as most people know, they should have rounded die-cut edges. However. look at the thickness and the inside of the inner sleeve. These 1st press sleeves were printed on much much thicker card stock than all later ones (even later die cut sleeves). However, the real point watch for here is the insides of the sleeves, they were not white like the outer sleeves, they were an uncoloured brown card. If the inside of the inner sleeves are coloured white then they are not 1st press inners!!! I tell you all this because I hate to see people get purposefully duped into buying mis-described records. Sure everyone makes mistakes, but intentionally making up reasons to describe a later press record as a first press is an annoying eBay habit I would like to see stamped out. There are many more subtle ways to distinguish this from all later pressings but I have given you the main points above, still feel free to email me if you require anymore info and I'll be happy to help out.

Of course no original UK 1st pressing would be complete without the very rare original clear plastic title sticker.  All of the very first UK issues came sealed in shrink wrapping, with the plastic title sticker (I call it a sticker but it is more of a peelable window sticker) placed underneath the shrink wrapping, which was the opposite of how the stickers stuck straight onto the shrink wrapping for the 1973 Dark Side and the 1975 Wish You Were Here. That was why all of the later issues had the plastic title dropping off and normally getting lost, it was only held in place originally by the tightly pulled shrink wrapping. This first issue cover had the original shrink-wrapping removed and the one original owner thankfully tucked the title sticker inside one of the record storage compartments. This ensured that it was not lost like most others over time and being inside meant no yellowing or ageing, this is where is has remained untouched for these last 27 years! As we all know, Pink Floyd, like Led Zeppelin, regarded their cover artwork very highly and didn't like to blemish it with text. The removable sticker was thus seen as a compromise between band and record label. Needless to say, most stickers were thrown out with the shrink-wrap. It is very rare to find an original sticker, let alone one which is in Nr Mint condition and has not discoloured or ripped etc. like most other examples you will see today.

As for checking the 1st press credentials of the actual discs, well this is quiet easy really because EMI had yet to change their matrix's configuration from the 1960's, (the change was about to be brought in for the following year; 1980). These records by 1979 standards are heavyweight and deep grooved, very similar to 1960's vinyl, as seen by the wide thick lip before the run-in grooves on the record's outside rims. Every first issue had the same 60's style of raised machine stampings in the run-out grooves, however the 1980+ re-issues of The Wall would have the 3 O'clock position's once coded letters for the pressing sequence, replaced by simply using actual numbers as digits for the order a record was manufactured in. They became elongated looking more like they were scratched in than the solid 60's raised style of stamping used by EMI through the 1970's decade. These records matrix's and in particular EMI stamping's are a perfect example of the pre-changed format. For the UK first pressing's, the matrix's ended with either, '-1U' / '- 2U' / '-3U' & very occasionally ‘-6U, ONLY combinations of these numbers per side of the two records, signify the pre-release first pressings. Both of these records have following sequence of 1st press matrix numbers: Record 1; SHSP 4111 - A - 2U / - B - 3U Record 2; SHSP 4112 - A - 3U / - B - 6U. I have only ever seen the '-1U' ending on one out of the four sides. The LP was never made with '-1U' on both sides. Unless everything I have just described is together in the same package, there will have been, cover / lyric inners /records switching going on (very common with many dealers today) or it will be a re-issue from the decades that followed the very end of the 1970's. Rest assured that this is a true 1st pressing with all original 1st press components!

As you'd expect, the Cool blue/white Centre Labels are in superb condition!!! There are also NO Tears, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing or other blemishes of any kind to the centre labels - there is just the occasional and very faint wispy trace of a spindle line or two. The gramophone rims containing the all important matrix are also Mint.

The 1st press discs are also in amazing condition with NO scratches, No Hairlines, NO groove-wear and NO warping! Both discs are SIMPLY STUNNING with a glossy mirror-like shine and NO dullness at all which suggests that they have been played only a handful of times at most!!! They have just the faintest wispy paper-line or two visible only when holding the record angled toward strong light and that in no way affect playing. I would have to grade these two discs as a strong Excellent++++ condition at the very least! Please remember that my records are not over-graded at all! Both discs play simply pristine, with NONE of the common crackle, skips, jumps & loud pops etc you usually hear on early pressings of this album. Having play-graded this once on my high-end Mitchell system I can report that it play absolutely pristinely.

Both 1st press heavy card die-cut lyric Inner sleeves are also in super condition!!! There is NONE of the seam splitting or yellowing commonly associated with these fragile inner sleeves! The records were removed and replaced in regular poly-lined inners  a long time ago now and these original inner sleeves have been treated like inserts ever since, being safely tucked away inside the sleeves empty, whilst the discs were housed in the replacement poly-lined inners.

The classic 1st Press Gerald Scarfe & Roger Waters designed Gatefold Sleeve is also in is also in STUNNING condition with NO Seam Wear, NO Tears, NO Seam Splits, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind!!!  It is nice and stiff and folds out perfectly!!!! The sleeve lies totally FLAT with NO RING WEAR and a MINT spine!!! Unbelievably it still retains all of its glossy cream (remember, the 1st press sleeve was made in a cream colour - not pure white!!) factory sheen!! There is virtually none of the discolouration normally associated with these sleeves. It grades as very near pristine with maybe just one or two very light indents in the surface when angling the sleeve toward strong light. This sleeve must at  the very least grade as Ex+++!!! A beautiful UK 1st pressing!!!

The very rare 1st press Transparency sticker of course is in stunning condition with no rips or wear etc and grades as Nr Mint!!!

An absolutely essential (and very rare) 1st Press for any Pink Floyd/ UK Progressive fan to to own!!! Don't miss this one as these UK 1st Press LP's NEVER turn up any more in this kind of condition.  Please check out our feedback and bid with confidence as this is a NO RESERVE auction with a very low starting price!  Do not underestimate the rarity of this LP, it is very hard to find a UK true 1st press copy of 'The Wall' approaching this kind of condition, and you will very likely not see another in a very long time, if at all!!!
