READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles-Related LP 1965 George Martin Plays Help! with John’s and Paul’s Working Titles, EX!

George Martin’s instrumental albums of Beatles songs must have been made to expose people over 40 to The Beatles’ music.  These records are perfectly square renditions, but they’re also fascinating time capsules for that reason.

I’ve always found it interesting that Martin was allowed to not only use The Beatles’ images, but images that weren’t previously published.  It gave him an edge on the teen market as well.  It didn’t help.  Sales were slightly “meh,” thus creating some nice mid-level collector’s items from the height of Beatlemania.

But the most interesting thing about this collection is that Martin used the working titles for three of the tracks before John and Paul settled on their final titles.  The three tracks you won’t recognize by title are:

1. Auntie Gin’s Theme

2. That’s a Nice Hat

3. Scrambled Egg.

Just for a little fun, when you receive the album, listen to those songs first to find out what they eventually were named!

Vinyl--- EX/EX.  Both sides shine like brand new, full 100% gloss.  However, each side has one extremely light line too light to capture in photos.  Most would grade this album NM, but because those lines weren’t there when this copy left the pressing plant, I can’t call it NM.

Plates--- B-CLB-1/B-CLB-2.

Cover--- Nice VG.  Structurally solid.  Top seam and spine have some shelfwear.  Bottom seam looks great.  Cover has NO SPLIT SEAMS.  Back cover has heavy browning and dirtwear, though.

Labels--- EX/EX.  Just a few very light spindle marks only.  Otherwise, labels look brand new.

UA Inner Sleeve--- VG.  Sleeve actually presents as brand new.  But one side seam has a split about 3 inches.  Otherwise, this is a flat, full-color sleeve.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original UA inner sleeve en route.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
