READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles-Rel. LP George Harrison Somewhere in England Repro 1980 Deleted Version, NM!

This copy is a faithful reproduction of the scarce British-only discontinued first version of "Somewhere in England," which the U.S. never got. 

For those unfamiliar, when George was ready to issue this LP in the late summer of 1980, two things happened that had prevented this version from going out.  First, Warner Bros. didn’t like the album, and they asked George to rework it to make it more commercial.  Secondly, John was murdered. 

As a result, four of the tracks from this first lineup were deleted from the commercial release:

1. Flying Hour

2. Lay His Head

3. Sat Singing

4. Tears of the World

In subsequent years, Flying Hour and Sat Singing were issued with the limited edition, autographed book, “Songs by George Harrison” as an E.P. with a couple of live tracks, and Lay His Head was issued as a B-side.  All were remixed.

This album has the original mixes in stellar sound.

Rightfully so, our man George, faced with having to write four new songs more pleasing to top radio, wrote a new opening track in protest, called “Blood from a Clone.”  (Warner’s accepted it, seemingly not realizing it was about them!)  George also reworked a previously existing song meant for Ringo, changed the lyrics and that one became the lead single to John, “All Those Years Ago.”  The other two cuts added to the released version were “Teardrops” and “That Which I Have Lost.” 

Warner Bros. should have allowed George to release his original lineup.  The deleted tracks make for a far better George album.

Sat Singing, by the way, is one of my favorite songs from this version, and it could have been issued as a single.

Vinyl--- NM/ NM. I’m the original owner from the 1980’s.

Plates--- DHK-1-3492/DHK-2-3492. These repros were not issued plate numbers beyond the catalogue number.

Cover--- VG+. Spine has printing. See photo.  Back cover retains the original copyright date, 1980, as opposed to the commercial release from 1981.

Labels--- NM/ NM.  They look freshly printed.

Inner Sleeve--- Generic white.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
