redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome and exceedingly rare LP from Continental (CLP 101, US pressing, red/gold label – ED1, mono) entitled “Bela Bartok plays Bartok” features the very first LP release of recordings made of the great composer at his home in New York in 1941/42 by Remington’s Don Gabor and conductor Laszlo Halaz. This album was released shortly after the new LP medium was introduced; Gabor would re-issue them on his later Remington label in 1952 (the catalog number is R-199-94). These are immensely important historical documents, as well as richly rewarding musical performances.

Improvisations (on Hungarian Folksongs) Op. 20 (Nos. 1, 2, 6, 7, and 8) (1920)
Three Hungarian Folktunes (1914-1918) “Hommage à Paderewski”
First Rondo on Folktunes (1916)
Second Bagatelle Op. 6 (1908)
Preludio – All’ Ungherese
There are excellent liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in English only.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the front laminated jacket is FAIR. (Note: This is near the bottom of my grading scale and below eBay’s lowest grading). The bottom edge is completely split, there is a fair amount of edgewear, particularly at corners, and some of the text on the front panel is a bit faded. Nonetheless, the album remains presentation worthy – not a collector’s copy, but still a passable one.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring flawless or NM surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
