From the archives of a noted Australian rock’n’roll and entertainment historian comes this piece of classic rock music history. Belfast Gypsies. Gloria’s Dream PROMO 45. US pressing. 1966. Loma. 2051. KIM FOWLEY THEM THE OTHER THEM. Them was a band with a revolving door of musicians spinning like a top that lead singer Van Morrison perceived as merely a backing back. Eventually, it splintered, disintergrating finally following their return from the 1966 US tour (where, in LA, The Doors had supported Them at the Whiskey a Go Go). Morrison embarked on his solo career, what was left of Them continued, and a handful of earlier musical members of the band formed a rival group. A court ruling allowed the rival group to use a version of their original name, which became The Other Them and, occasionally, the Belfast Gypsies. Fronted by Jackie McAuley, whose sonic resemblance to Van The Man was more than mere flattery, the band was co-opted by LA Svengali Kim Fowley to record some numbers that veered as close to Them’s previous hits as copyright law would allow. Gloria’s Song is Gloria, sung by Jackie McAuley as if he was impersonating Van Morrison. Good times. Record is in Very Good Plus condition, some marks that don’t affect play. Generic sleeve. Comes with a an envelope from Warner Bros. Records, Burbank, CA, most likely the envelope the promo 45 was mailed in. SHIPPING: Owing to problems with international shipping, all international packages will be sent Express Air Mail. The one exception is New Zealand, where Standard Air Mail is OK.
