RARE Original U.K. 1966 Purple & While Label Transatlantic pressing of Bert Jansch & John Renbourn’s ‘Bert and John’ L.P. (Catalogue Reference: Transatlantic Records TRA 144).  This consists of a relatively heavy vinyl pressing with textured labels on both sides stored inside a just as relatively flimsy, fully-laminated card sleeve which has been ‘pinched’ along the spine.  The sleeve really isn’t a particularly robust construction and you very rarely find the whole package in the kind of condition you have here.  While the vinyl has seen a relative amount of play (you can’t really tell by looking at the playing surface but under an intense light you can pick-up some spindle-wear around the spindle-hole on the labels) this is still a really superior copy.  The playing surfaces are quite dusty but under an intense light it is still obvious that there are only a sparing amount of marks on them.  There is a small superficial surface scuff on the third track on Side One (‘Goodbye Pork Pie Hat’) but otherwise the only markings are isolated hairline markings.  There is a suggestion in places that the playing surface has been wiped resulting in the characteristic ‘sweeps’ of hairline marks but you really have to look quite hard for these.  I’d recommend a light clean prior to play but this is a solid EXCELLENT grade.  A very nice example of a record that tends to be trashed.  I should note at this point that aside from the aforementioned spindle-marks which are only really apparent under an intense light that the labels are pretty immaculate.  The sleeve really doesn’t look nearly 50 years old.  The laminate on both sides retains a certain ‘fresh’ appearance and is not particularly blemished.  There is one tiny crease to the bottom right-hand corner and another in the top left-hand corner which has resulted in a small laminate bubble forming.  Otherwise there are no other bends or creases which is surprising when you consider just how flimsy this is.  As noted above the spine has been ‘pinched’ and this has resulted in characteristic laminate bubbles forming along the length of the spine on the front and rear (the one on the rear is one large bubble).  This is absolutely unavoidable and one of the drawbacks of this type of sleeve construction.  The corners are still quite sharp.  There really is nothing else to say.  It is one of the best-looking copies I’ve seen and is graded as being in EXCELLENT+ condition.

Final Remarks

It is hard-to-find these mid-60s Transatlantics in this kind of condition because they really weren’t that robust.  In time I will be listing a number of other LPs by both artists (as soloists).  I’m currently selling a copy of Pentangle’s ‘Solomon’s Seal’ L.P. so please check my other auctions for this as well as other Blues, Folk, Pop and Rock collectables in similarly tidy condition.  Save me as a favourite seller as there is plenty more where this came from!

I have been a collector for in excess of 15 years now and regard myself as a conservative grader.  I know from experience that there is nothing worse than buying an item which is described with superlatives only for it to arrive and look like it has been scrapped along the floor (!).  As a rule I don’t submit anything to auction which I wouldn’t be happy receiving myself.  I endeavour to be accurate with my grading and all items are graded under an intense light.  Please take a look through my feedback as I’d like to think it speaks for itself. 

Returns Policy

If you are not entirely happy with your purchase then please contact me within 7 days of receipt.  The buyer is expected to meet the return postage costs.

Payment Methods

Domestic buyers can pay via Cheque, PayPal or Postal Order.  Overseas buyers are always welcome and are required to pay via PayPal.  Payment is expected within 7 days of auction end unless otherwise agreed.

Postage Costs

I have had to bring my service in-line with changes to Royal Mail Terms and Conditions effective of April 2013.  Previously items sent via standard post were automatically covered up to the value of £46.00 however, standard postage now only covers items up to the value of £20.00.  Items with an opening value >£20.00 will include domestic Signed For postage costs automatically.  Items with an opening value <=£20.00 and which complete with a value <=£20.00 will continue to be dispatched via standard post unless otherwise agreed (i.e. the buyer indicates a preference otherwise).  Items which have an opening value <=£20.00 but whose final value is >£20.00 will be subject to enhanced postage costs in order to cover the extra insurance which is required.  I hope this is as straightforward as I can make it?  Ultimately, please don’t make payment until you’ve received an invoice from me and if you aren’t happy with the invoice you receive then I’m always open to discussion.  Buyers should be aware that both Ebay and PayPal take a % of postage charges (i.e. they are higher than I’d ideally want them to be).

Multiple purchases will be subject to consolidated postage costs.  I will contact you at the end of the auction to confirm these costs.

Proof of postage is always obtained and retained.
