Big Country: The Crossing, Limited Edition (Red Cover/Embossed Gold Text), Vinyl 12" LP, Mercury Records, 1983

Following Stuart Adamson's departure from Skids, he formed Big Country in 1982, taking on the roles of lead vocalist and guitarist. 'The Crossing' was their debut album from 1983. Produced with Steve Lillywhite, it was a huge success, and this item was a limited edition of the album with textured red cover and embossed gold text and logo. Please look at my other items.

Catalogue number MERS 27 (spine of sleeve), MERS 27 812 870-1 (rear of sleeve and labels). 33 rpm. Textured red cover and embossed gold text and logo. Printed inner sleeve with lyrics either side and small black and white illustration accompanying each track. Blue labels with white text. Condition:

Card outer sleeve: Excellent+ condition. Very clean with little or no overall wear; some extremely light disc edge impression in places, visible when turned to the light; a tiny number of surface marks.

Inner sleeve: Excellent condition, very clean, with little or no overall wear, just some very light rumpling in places, and some disc edge impression.

Vinyl: Excellent+ condition – this vinyl will have been played once (or twice at most) then taped – as described in seller’s Terms & Conditions, and it looks pretty much immaculate.

Postage charge for UK buyers:

The postage charge for vinyl records is now dealt with directly by ebay under their ‘Simple Delivery’ system and the seller has no control over this. Multiple purchases seem to be combined under the same postage charge for a single item, which seems a very good deal. Packages for UK buyers are delivered by Evri and, again, the seller has no control over this. Please note that delivery issues are sorted out in timely fashion by ebay.

Postage/shipping charge for overseas (non-UK) buyers:

I am happy to sell to non-UK buyers, but please note that ebay will deal with the postage/shipping charge directly under their Global Shipping Programme (GSP). As at November 2025, packages are being collected by Royal Mail for delivery to the relevant GSP depot in the UK for onward shipping overseas. Buyers should be aware that exports outside of the UK may incur local taxes/duties/tariffs, so please check with your local Customs Office - the seller does not accept any responsibility for any such charges.

My items:

All the vinyl records which I have up for auction are my own personal possessions - I am selling to free up space. All photographs are of the actual items and are NOT stock photos.

Cleaning & Packaging:

All vinyl has been carefully wiped with an anti-static cloth lightly sprayed with Spincare ‘record cleaner for vinyl records’. Items will be robustly packaged to avoid damage in shipping. Each 12" vinyl disc will be inside a brand new, archival quality anti-static, anti-scratch high density (50 micron) polyethylene inner sleeve, rather than being inside the original inner sleeve and cover, this to avoid seam splits in transit. The disc, inside its new polyethylene inner sleeve, along with its original inner sleeve and its original outer cover will be shipped inside a brand new, low density (100 micron/‘maximum protection’) polyethylene outer sleeve. This will be inside a brand new, robust (corrugated/double wall) cardboard vinyl mailer. The mailer will be also packed with at least one brand new, robust (corrugated/double wall) cardboard stiffener to provide extra protection.

Condition assessment/‘grading’:

All items have been visually assessed for condition under good lighting. Any specific possible issues (not general light ‘hairlines’ though) have been checked by a limited ‘play test’ on a turntable ahead of this listing. Please note: (unless stated for certain records, mostly those issued/purchased c.1978-1982) the majority of the records in my listings (mostly those issued c.1983-1990) were taped shortly after issue/purchase and the vinyl has been in storage ever since (since c.1990). Therefore (unless stated for certain records), pretty much all of the vinyl has remained pretty much unplayed since c.1990, unless I mention an aforementioned ‘play test’ to check on a possible specific condition issue for this auction.

In my item description, I am not using any of the formal grading systems vinyl dealer’s use, I’m using my own judgement. In addition to my description, I would strongly urge potential buyers to study the photographs carefully - as these form an essential part of the condition report. As mentioned, all photos were taken by the seller and are of the actual item - none are stock photos. Also, please look out my feedback for vinyl sales!

Matrix/run-out details & track listings on auction listings:

I sometimes include alphanumeric matrix information from the vinyl run-out/‘dead wax’ in the item description. On occasion though I don’t and If potential buyers would like the information, simply message me through ebay during the auction and I will do what I can to provide what is needed. Also, I don’t always including track-listings in the item descriptions, as these can almost always be seen on the photographs, but please message me during the auction if information is required and I have not included it as text in the listing.
