Bing Crosby Original 1947 Merry Christmas with bonus 1942 “White Christmas”
DECCA Album No. A-550 It has 8 songs; Decca 23777A-.Silent Night; B- Adeste Fideles; 3.Decca 23778 A-White Christmas; B- God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen; DECCA 23779 A-.I’ll Be Home for Christmas; B-.Faith of Our Fathers. Unfortunately one of the records in this album, “Jingle Bells & Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” is missing. In its place I am including the ORIGINAL 1942 recording of “White Christmas” with the flipside of “Let’s Start the New Year Right” (DECCA 18429). This rare record was recorded on May 29, 1942 and was issued as part of the album from “Holiday Inn,” the movie in which Bing introduced “White Christmas.” The version of White Christmas on DECCA 23788 was recorded with the exact same arrangement on March 19, 1947, as DECCA felt the original master was wearing out. So you can compare the two recordings. Although microphones had improved some between 1942 & 1947, I personally prefer the older recording.
The records are all in good condition, some mild surface noise, no skips. These play very well tracking on my Audio-Technica ATPL-120 turntable with Shure Cartridge tracking at about 2.5-3 grams. All records have been played before listing. All items as is.
The original record binder has some wear and is in nice Condition, considering it is 70 years old. There are some rub marks along the edges and some small spots where the color has worn off on the front cover. Binding is in great condition, and the liner notes on the inside front cover are bright and clean.
