Description
THE BLACK DYKE MILLS BAND - 'THINGUMYBOB'/'YELLOW SUBMARINE'
Released under the name 'John Foster & Sons Ltd Black Dyke Mills Band' (one of the oldest and best-known brass bands in the world), 'Thingumybob' was one of the first four singles issued on the Apple label in August 1968. The 'A' side was an instrumental written & produced by Paul McCartney (although credited to Lennon/McCartney on the label) and was used as the theme to a UK Yorkshire Television sitcom of the same name starring Stanley Holloway. The flipside was a brass band instrumental version of "Yellow Submarine".
This rare, earliest possible copy is a UK 1st pressing on the dark green Apple Records label: APPLE 4

Stamper codes: 1/G & 1/G (the earliest possible stamper codes for each side).
1003-A1 & 1003-B1 are crossed out in each respective run-out.
Housed within its original UK glossy Apple company sleeve.

Both are bright & unfaded with a minimal amount of light spindle trails around the side 2 centre hole only and a 'BBC Radio Brighton' stamp on each side.
Visual: VERY GOOD +
A clean and unworn pair of playing surfaces which retain their deep-gloss shines with a single light fingernail scuff mark on side 2 being the only noticeable surface mark in strong daylight. Closer examination directly beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp reveals some harmless wispy paper-type hairlines, but nothing I would call a scratch.
Sound Quality: VERY GOOD
Despite some light background crackle throughout, both traces are free from any groove/play wear distortion or any significant clicks, pops or any other audible distractions.
Cover: GOOD
Clean & flat but with numerous small creases from storage, but no writing, tears or seam splits.
