Description
Blanche Johnson; Herwin : "216 Blues" (Matrix 4127-2) / "Galveston Blues" (Matrix 4128-1). Will Ezell, piano.
Dixon and Godrich (4th ed.) say that Blanche Johnson "is a pseudonym on Herwin for a Paramount artist, the original issue, if any, being so far untraced. Aurally, Blanche Johnson sounds like Elzadie Robinson."
See photos and listen to sound clip for condition. I've tried to grade using the closest of ebay's categories. The following G+ description from another grading system is pretty accurate: "Grey throughout but still serviceable. Music begins to sound muffled. Heavy scratches." There is plenty of surface noise and scratches, but it tracks OK and no cracks or chips. There is an indentation running across the record (like the radius of a circle) that doesn't seem to affect tracking. See photos. There is indication of a needle having run across the labels (among other label scratches). I made sound clips using a Pickering stylus with a little brush that acts as a damper and helps it track better. Does not have the original sleeve; will be in a replacement Kraft paper sleeve.
I've owned 78s for years and respect their fragility. To ship, I will place the record in a replacement Kraft paper sleeve, sandwich it between cardboard layers, and place in a larger box with foam popcorn.
