My Blue Note 78rpm collection (up for sale on eBay now)
After some 20 years of collecting Blue Note 78s I decided to stop. My BN 78s are carefully packed in 3 big boxes but, as I’m getting older, listening to the music is enough for me. As I have all the music on cd, having all these 78's seems to have become less important to me. And that's why I'm going to end my collection.
I think I've gathered a very special Blue Note 78rpm collection during all those years. First I offered my collection to a few serious collectors as I wanted to keep the collection together. But when I noticed that nobody wants to purchase a whole collection I finally decided to auction them on eBay. And here they are. Most of my collection is still here but a number of items already left for new owners like the Blue Note catalogue collection (which once belonged to Ruth Lion, wife of Alfred) and a collection of rare acetates.
But there’s enough left that is (sometimes very) rare and precious. Among them there are approximately 30 unplayed 10" and 12" records ("warehouse copies", in mint condition) which once personally belonged to Alfred Lion, Blue Note's founder himself. That’s what the story told, I bought these more than 15 yrs ago along with other Blue Note “memorabilia” like catalogs and letters on a Californian auction. You’ll find Alfred's scriibbles on some of the original paper sleeves (which are pretty worn ans the paper holding these 78s wasn't very high quality stuff). More than ten records have the first, original blue/chartreuse first 235 7th Ave label.
But more important is that this is your change to acquire the Blue Note 78’s that you ‘re missing or want to replace for a better copy. Furthermore I will combine shipping which will safe you (hugely) on (shipping) costs. This is a collection of more than 150 Blue Note 78s and record albums, most of them in VG+ to NM condition. Among them a couple of BN 78s I rarely (2 to 3 times) saw on eBay, there are even a couple of BN78s that I've never seen on eBay or other auctions.
Grading
All my records have been graded visually using a strong halogen light.
M-: The record is in new condition with no surface marks. I will never grade a record Mint, even if it’s unplayed. Therefore I will grade these M-.
E+: The record shows some signs of having been played but there is very little lessening in sound quality. An Ex+ is a really shiny copy with hardly a mark on it.

E-: Is a 78rpm in “E”-state but the record is quite scuffed with with no deep scratches and with only minor greying/worn looking patches
VG+: The record has obviously been played many times but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and an occasional scratch. Many 78s are found in this condition. These records sound pleasant enough, albeit with a background hiss and a bit of sound deterioration

Packing
I know how to pack 78s. During the last 20 yrs I’ve safely send hundreds and hundreds of 78rpms (using oversized boxes, lots of stiff cardboard and shock absorbing materials). I will do my best packing job thus giving my 78rms a proper last goodbye.
