“Some of the best live versions of Dylan's folk songs like Don't Think Twice, It's Allright, appear on this album. Also some of the best versions of Band chestnuts like Stage Fright and The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.”

This is the extremely rare real thing: a genuine MINT 1974 UK first pressing. The records are in mint condition and the cover and inner sleeves are in excellent condition. All items are free from any major defects. See pics. All items are the genuine originals bought together by me in 1974, not reprints or replacements. The LPs are the original 1974 UK stereo LPs, which were only played once or twice on top-end audiophile equipment and lovingly cared for.

“Before the Flood is nothing short of a brilliant live album, featuring an energized and passionate Dylan, putting into his songs a vitality that a studio cannot hold.”

Before the Flood is a live album by Bob Dylan and The Band, released in June 1974 on Asylum Records in America and Island Records in Great Britain. It is the seventeenth album by Dylan and the seventh by The Band, and documents their joint 1974 American tour. It peaked at number three on the Billboard 200, reached number eight on the popular album chart in the United Kingdom, and has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
Reviews for Before the Flood were positive. AllMusic has described it as "one of the best live albums of its time. Ever, maybe." Robert Christgau wrote, "At its best, this is the craziest and strongest rock and roll ever recorded. All analogous live albums fall flat." Greil Marcus commented, "Roaring with resentment and happiness, the music touched rock and roll at its limits”.

This may be your only ONCE IN A LIFETIME chance to own this rare piece of music history in this condition.

“This is one of the greatest live albums ever... Also, the definitive version of 'Up on Cripple Creek' can be found on this disc as well”

Bob Dylan and the Band both needed the celebrated reunion tour of 1974, since Dylan's fortunes had been floundering since Self Portrait and the Band stumbled with 1971's Cahoots. The tour, with its attendant publicity, definitely returned both artists to centre stage, and it definitely succeeded, breaking box office records and earning great reviews. Before the Flood, a double-album souvenir of the tour, suggests that these were generally dynamic shows, but not because they were revelling in the past, but because Dylan was fighting the nostalgia of his audience -- nostalgia, it must be noted, that was promoted as the very reason behind these shows. Yet that's what gives this music such kick -- Dylan reworks, rearranges, and reinterprets these songs in ways that are still disarming, years after its initial release. He could only have performed interpretations this radical with a group as sympathetic, knowing of his traits as the band, whose own recordings here are respites from the storm. And this is a storm -- the sound of a great rocker, surprising his band and audience by tearing through his greatest songs in a manner that might not be comforting, but it guarantees it to be one of the best live albums of its time. Ever, maybe.
