Description
This is an exsquisite album and it hardly ever turns up in this lovely condition.
It's on the UK Verve Forecast label and is entitled 'Caravan' by Caravan. It's their first LP which features the original 'pillar' front cover (it was later re-released with a cartoon drawing of a caravan).
It's a mono recording and the catalogue number is VLP 6011. It was released originally in 1969. It is a very rare record.
OUTER SLEEVE - The laminated flipback sleeve is in great condition. There is some very slight creasing and one or two tiny marks on the front which are hardly visible. Otherwise the front of the sleeve is superb. There is virtually no 'feathering' at the entry side which is most unusual. The laminated flipbacks are in absolutely superb condition, the only blemishes being some creasing on each of these three sides. In the bottom right hand corner it states 'Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. Patent No. 943,895 S/VLP 6011'. The non-laminated part of the rear sleeve is in almost perfect condition and I can't find a blemish. The only slight wear which I can find on any part of the cover (front bottom right corner - 4mm of slight wear). I've graded the sleeve as Ex++.
INNER BAG - A plain white paper type.
RECORD - The record is in superb condition. It's lovely and clean with minimal surface marks. There is minor surface noise and this is audible between tracks but, apart from one mark on track 3, side two which shows up as a click over about 10 revolutions there are virtually no pops or clicks. It is rare to find a record which is nearly 40 years old in this great condition.
LABELS - The labels are the usual Verve mustard colour with black and white wording. There are some very minor spindle marks around both holes but these are very dificult to detect.. It states on both labels 'SOLD IN U.K. SUBJECT TO RESALE PRICE CONDITIONS, SEE PRICE LISTS'. The matrix numbers on the run-off grooves are - side one - VLP 6011 A-1 - side two - VLP 6011 B-1. I've graded the record as Ex+ which I believe is very fair.
I try to grade everything very conservatively and I believe that the winner of this auction will not be disappointed. I guarantee everything I sell. It will be difficult to find this record again in this condition.
