This LP is in truly EXCELLENT CONDITION+ and is genuinely a reluctant sale.

This is a rare UK Deram pressing by the brilliant Caravan titled Waterloo Lily. This LP is a beautiful example of this rare first pressing and highly sought after LP. There is absolutely no groove-wear, no pops, no clicks no ‘breakfast frying’, no sticks or jumps. Held at an angle towards light it is incredible there are no blemishes or paper scuffs observable...It is in outstanding condition and still retains its brilliant sheen as when it was first produced!!

Discerning and serious collectors of Caravan’s music know that to have this LP on this original Deram UK 1st pressing label in the collection is a ‘must’, and an indispensable addition to their catalogue.

Record Grading

Before I offer for sale I play grade to check my LP’s and I have just played both sides on an upmarket deck.

There is truly only one way to describe the vinyl of this LP – a superb Excellent+! – The winning bidder will not only be thrilled, but also as with all UK Deram 1st pressings amazed at the sound quality of the vinyl! Remember and please bear in mind that this original pressing is 38yrs old!

The vinyl is superb And I doubt if you will ever again find this vinyl in as stunning and beautiful condition!! ‘Run-in’s’ and run-out’s on both sides are brilliant. You would be very, very fortunate to find another with sound quality like this and in such brilliant overall condition!! The LP is superb!

As always, I am being genuine and highly critical, but honest in my evaluation of the LP; You’d be thinking I’m doing myself an injustice with my description but I treat others the way I wish to be treated myself so I am describing it to the best of my ability. (Also, I have not attempted to clean the record in case of damage to the LP and because it’s in such outstanding condition it doesn’t require any object or cleaning agent applied, in fact the only implement this LP requires is a stylus!)

LP Cover

Matt, gatefold sleeve. – Absolutely superb condition with vivid colours and very little signs of ageing. – no rips, tears, unwanted ink etc..etc!

The front, rear, and inside of the sleeve is clean and bright with no unsightly blemishes. The print on the spine is also excellent. The spine is also ‘square’. No edges wear, no feathering whatsoever (see images). Original sleeve “printed in England by Robert Stace”.

Labels

Absolutely immaculate! Held at an angle towards light you would be hard pressed to see any of very few trace of spindle marks! And 38yrs old to boot!… Both labels truly stunning! – No unwanted ink/writing or unsightly blemishes (see images)

Album review

Before the recording of Waterloo Lily, David Sinclair departed Caravan to join forces with Soft Machine skinsman Robert Wyatt and form Matching Mole. With the subsequent arrival of former Delivery member Steve Miller and an overwhelming jazz influence, the edgier progressive rock and folk elements that were so prevalent on their previous albums are somewhat repressed. The band's performance level did not suffer in the transition. In fact, the addition of Miller only punctuates Caravan's previously honed improvisational skills. Beginning with Waterloo Lily's leadoff title track, there is a sound more akin to the jazzier efforts of Traffic. Miller's "Nothing at All" incorporates the jazz fusion even further as the long instrumental introduction more than hints at Steely Dan circa Katy Lied. The up-tempo staccato bop featuring Miller's electric piano accents, when juxtaposed with Pye Hastings' liquid-toned electric guitar could easily be mistaken for that of Walter Becker and Donald Fagan. The remainder of the album centre on a couple of pieces that evoke the sound and spirit of the previous Caravan outings. Most reminiscent of the classic sound is Hastings' epic "The Love in Your Eye" suite. The track recalls the laid-back intensity and phenomenal improvisational synergy of earlier tracks such as "For Richard" and "Where, but for Caravan Would I," while wisely incorporating Miller's formidable jazz chops to give the instrumental sections sustained substance throughout. The remastered CD offers three additional compositions circa the Waterloo Lily sessions. "Pye's June Thing" and "Ferdinand" are two of Hastings' acoustic demos. A considerably more complete "Looking Left, Looking Right" is a treasured recovery from the vaults. Originally vaulted due to the time limitations of vinyl, this track, along with "Pye's Loop" — which acts as a coda to "Looking Left..." — mark their debut release here.
