CARLOS CHAVEZ - ANDY WARHOL'S 1st ALBUM COVER ART, A PROGRAM OF MEXICAN MUSIC, COLUMBIA RECORDS #ML2080. This famous rare 10 inch vinyl album bears the first album cover art ever created by famous artist Andy Warhol. In the book Andy Warhol: The Record Covers 1949-1987, Catalogue Raisonne, by Paul Marechal, "A Program of Mexican Music" (Columbia Masterworks 10" ML 2080) is listed as the first album with cover art designed by Andy Warhol. It has become more scarce over the years due to the increasing popularity and rising prices of Warhol's work. The recorded performance was conducted by Carlos Chavez directing an orchestra of American and Mexican musicians and the chorus of the National Music League. The production was sponsored by the Museum of Modern Art. The significance of this sponsorship, together with Warhol's art, cannot be ignored. I would say the record is in Excellent condition though I am not a professional vinyl grader. I think it looks close to near mint, but it has some light scratches which I believe cause it to be graded lower than near mint. Etching/stamps in run-out/dead wax: Side 1: “LP1633” and “2A20”, Side 2: “LP1634” and “2A14”. Additional information about the production and the music selections is included on the back of the sleeve. I would say the sleeve is in Very Good condition, with tape on the bottom edge and some writing in upper right hand corner of the reverse. Also includes original inner sleeve (partial split on bottom). This is a highly desirable item for both vinyl collectors and art collectors alike. See photos and grade/judge for yourself.
