Description
RARE and virtually unknown crude garage blues from New Jersey, circa 1968, from the Cellar-Wall, "Cross-Roads" (these boys really love the hyphen) b/w "It's About Time" on the Castle label. "Cross-Roads" is, of course, a cover of the Robert Johnson blues track that CREAM made famous, and the Cellar-Wall stick VERY close to Cream's version, with similar bursts of angry FUZZ guitar and a raw but heavy sound. Needless to say, both sides of this rare single are uncomped, and the ONLY information I can find about it comes from the person I bought it from - and that's only that the label is based in New Jersey and also released Negative Space's "Hard, Heavy Mean and Evil" album in 1970. That album was a classic barrage of dark, sinister fuzzed-out garage rock - could the Cellar-Wall be an earlier lineup of the same band? It certainly SOUNDS like a possibility. We know that only 500 Negative Space albums were pressed back in 1970 - I bet the amount of these singles was even less. Original 1968-ish pressing on the Castle label. Vinyl plays nice VG++.
