After the dissolution of NYC Youth Crew hardcore heroes Gorilla Biscuits in 1992, the band's primary songwriter Walter Schreifels (also of Youth Of Today) would form Quicksand (and later Rival Schools), whilst frontman Anthony "CIV" Civarelli would open up his own tattoo parlour on Long Island. Following the major label success Schreifels obtained with his newer group, he would reunite past members of GB - Arthur Smilios on bass, original drummer Sammy Siegler (Youth Of Today, Judge), and of course, the titular CIV, as well as enlisting Charlie Carriga (Outface, Quicksand) on guitar. Although Schreifels is credited as both producer and songwriter, he doesn't in fact play on this iconic melodic hardcore classic, similar to how essentially all Gorilla Biscuits material was recorded and performed by the man himself, all the way to down to scratch vocals, before he ever even asked Civarelli to join. The condensed version: 1995's Set Your Goals is a crisper, cleaner, "slightly" more mature sequel to GB's genre staple 1989 LP Start Today, with the reformed and regularly touring band often sneaking a few tracks from this album into their setlists. From featuring guest vocals from Sick Of It All frontman Lou Koller on 'Can't Wait One Minute More', to inspiring the name of San Francisco Bay-area melodic hardcore/pop-punk outfit Set Your Goals, this piece of vital 90s punk has been rife for a repress for far too many a moon.
